Emerson Holthouser: Making Her Mark in Lacrosse

At 20 years old, Emerson Holthouser has already built an impressive path through dedication, hard work, and a genuine love for the game. A resident of the neighborhood for the past eight years, Emerson is currently a student at Grand Valley State University, where she competes on the NCAA Division II Women’s Lacrosse Team.
Emerson’s journey with lacrosse began in eighth grade at Crosby Middle School. “They didn’t have enough girls on the team, so a friend encouraged me to try out and the rest is history,” she shares. “I absolutely fell in love with the sport.” That decision quickly turned into a passion that carried her through Sacred Heart Academy, where she helped lead her team to a state championship her junior year and earned Kentucky State Tournament MVP honors.
Her success continued into college, where Emerson is now finishing her sophomore season. She is part of a championship caliber program, contributing to both a GLIAC regular season and tournament title. One of her favorite memories so far came early in her college career when she scored the overtime game winning goal against Northern Michigan as a freshman.
Beyond the field, Emerson stays deeply involved in leadership and service. She participates in her team’s Leadership Development Program, serves on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and spends her summers giving back to the sport as head coach of the Jokers Lacrosse Club Team in Lexington. Her experience across multiple positions, from midfielder in high school to attack in college, allows her to mentor players in all aspects of the game, from shooting and stick skills to defense and footwork.
For Emerson, lacrosse has always been about more than competition. “My sport has brought me so many new relationships and friendships,” she says. From her early days in Kentucky to competing at the collegiate level, she has formed lasting connections with teammates across the country.
Balancing a demanding schedule has required discipline and intention. Emerson credits her ability to stay organized and make time for what matters most, whether that is practice, academics, or spending time with friends, family, and her boyfriend.
When asked who inspires her most, Emerson does not hesitate. “I admire my dad. He is the hardest worker I know and inspires me every day.” From countless hours practicing in the yard to traveling the country to find the right college fit, his support has played a pivotal role in her journey. With a strong foundation, a passion for the game, and a commitment to leadership, Emerson continues to make her mark both on and off the field.

This summer, Emerson is offering lacrosse lessons for young athletes who want to sharpen their skills and build confidence on the field. Emerson loves helping players develop strong fundamentals, smart game sense, and a real passion for the sport. Sessions can be tailored to any age or skill level.
