Erica McPheeters: Living with Purpose, Leading with Heart
Community advocate, student leader, and Derby Princess

- Erica’s story is one of power, grace, and impact. -
If you've met Erica McPheeters, you know she's a force. Passionate, driven, and grounded in purpose, this 22-year-old Lake Forest resident has already accomplished more than many twice her age—and she’s just getting started.
Born and raised in Louisville, Erica recently graduated from Kentucky State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. While at KSU, she wore many crowns—literally and figuratively—including serving as Miss Kentucky State University and being selected as a 2025 Kentucky Derby Princess. A proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Erica’s leadership and advocacy work left a lasting impact on campus and across the state.
Now, she's headed to Howard University this fall to pursue her master’s in African Studies, continuing her mission of empowering young people and using her voice to drive change. As a consultant in graphic design and community engagement, Erica combines creativity with purpose, pulling from her experiences as an ambassador with the Human Rights Campaign, a public speaker, and a youth mentor.
Her long-term goals? Becoming a criminal defense attorney and opening a community center for Louisville’s youth—a safe space that offers mentorship, resources, and hope.
While Erica is blazing new trails, her heart is never far from home. She moved to Lake Forest a little over a year ago and instantly fell in love with the neighborhood's welcoming energy and peaceful vibe. “It’s such a beautiful community,” she says. “Everyone has been so friendly—it really feels like home.”
When she’s not speaking at schools or volunteering with local churches, you’ll probably find her enjoying some of her favorite local eats—Momma’s BBQ, Eden & Kissi, or a cozy dinner at Shalimar’s. Holiday traditions include a yearly trip to Memphis and a must-watch combo of Silent Night and Die Hard every Christmas (yes, Die Hard is part of the tradition!).
Erica’s story is one of vision, service, and strength. Whether she’s on stage, in a classroom, or advocating for others, she leads with heart. Lake Forest is lucky to be part of her journey—and something tells us the best is yet to come.
