Tony Colyer of Colyer Law Firm

Championing Fairness and Community, One Case at a Time

Meet Tony Colyer, founder of The Colyer Law Firm, and proud Lake Forest neighbor since 2013. Tony grew up right here in Louisville, in the Fern Creek and Highview areas, first in Cedar Creek, then Spring Mill, as the oldest of three boys. A natural leader even then, Tony graduated from St. Bernard Elementary School as Class President and Quarterback of the 1996 Toy Bowl team.
Tony’s parents were both raised in Shively, and when Tony was born, the family lived between the Iroquois neighborhood and Southland Park, right off Southland Drive. His Louisville roots run deep, and those early years shaped the sense of loyalty and community he still carries today.
Tony’s path to becoming a lawyer started very early. In third grade, he drew a picture of himself holding a briefcase with the caption: “I want to be a lawyer when I grow up, so I can help people.” That childhood dream turned out to be right on the money.
A graduate of St. Xavier High School, Tony played both basketball and football, earned a KHSAA Football State Championship ring in 1999, and never missed a day of class, earning “Perfect Attendance” honors. Sports also taught him firsthand what it means to recover from injuries, a lesson that would shape his future career.
After high school, Tony attended the University of Kentucky, completing his degree in four years. During summers, he worked the assembly line at Ford Motor Company’s Louisville Assembly Plant and even washed dishes at Woodhaven Country Club, experiences that instilled a strong work ethic and appreciation for everyday people.
After graduating from UK, Tony married Witney Hardwick Colyer, a Male High School graduate and fellow lifelong Louisvillian. The couple moved to Lake Forest in 2013, where they’re now raising their two daughters. Tony proudly calls himself a Girl Dad, and when he’s not working for his clients, he can often be spotted coaching youth sports, cheering at volleyball games, or even at the occasional Taylor Swift concert.
Tony later earned his law degree from UofL’s Brandeis School of Law in 2008 and began his legal career representing insurance companies, gaining valuable insight into how they operate. That experience taught him that the real role of a trial lawyer is to level the playing field for injury victims, to protect their rights while they focus on healing. Since his first job in 2004, Tony has devoted his entire career to personal injury law, handling every phase from negotiation and trial to appeals.
In 2015, Tony founded The Colyer Law Firm, originally located in the historic Kentucky Home Life Building in downtown Louisville. Today, the firm is based in Middletown on Brinley Avenue, where Tony and his team continue their mission: using their experience and resources to protect clients’ rights and help them recover to the fullest extent of the law.
What sets The Colyer Law Firm apart? Tony’s insurance background gives him a unique edge because he knows the system inside and out, which helps him fight effectively for clients. The firm is 100% community-driven, proudly serving Lake Forest families and Louisville residents with compassion and fairness. The Colyer Law Firm offers competitive rates for injury victims, keeping financial recovery where it belongs, in the clients’ pockets. In addition to personal injury and workers’ compensation cases, the firm also handles Estate Planning (wills and estates) and Probate matters.
Tony’s advice for neighbors? “Don’t hesitate to reach out for help when you’re injured. No one who calls us ever wanted to be in that situation, but your focus after an injury should be on recovery and family, not navigating insurance questions. We’re here to help with integrity, transparency, peace of mind, and compassion.
When asked what he loves most about Lake Forest, Tony’s answer is simple: “I’m from here. My family is from here. This is home. I care about this community, this city, its people, and their safety. That’s why we say, ‘Colyer Law Firm is your law firm.’
