Meet Big Blue: A Little Dog with a Big Personality
At just 9 months old, this cream dapple dachshund has already made himself right at home. Carrie had always wanted a wiener dog after having one as a child, and when their youngest turned four, the timing finally felt right. In November, they decided to surprise their kids with a puppy for Christmas.
After finding a semi local breeder, the family narrowed it down to two choices, a long haired golden and a short haired cream dapple. Carrie let her husband make the final decision since she had already picked the breed, and with two little girls in the house, she was perfectly happy with the short haired option since it meant one less person needing their hair brushed.
Big Blue made his grand entrance on Christmas morning in the most unforgettable way, arriving in a box on the front porch. The kids were completely shocked, with one even crying happy tears in pure disbelief. It was a moment the family will never forget.
He may have been expected to stay under 11 pounds as a mini, but Big Blue had other plans. At 14 pounds, he is a little bigger than planned, but Carrie says that actually works out better for their family, especially with a playful four year old who can be a bit rough at times.
Big Blue fits right in thanks to his energy and fun loving personality. He loves to snuggle, be held, ride in the car, and follow the kids around wherever they go. He is just as happy stretched out in the sun as he is chasing after a toy, and his little hotdog body bouncing through the grass never gets old.
When it comes to treats, he is not picky. He loves dog bones, sticks, and any food left unattended, even if that means something sitting right on the kitchen table.
As for special talents, Carrie laughs that there are none to report. He is just a cute wiener dog, and they did not train him to do anything in particular. But what he lacks in skills, he more than makes up for in personality.
And like any good family pet, he has already delivered plenty of laughs. One of their favorite moments so far happened when Carrie was holding him and his very long tongue, which seems to match the length of his body, accidentally ended up in Lola’s mouth and she bit it without meaning to.
Between the snuggles, the energy, and that unforgettable Christmas morning surprise, Big Blue has quickly become a beloved part of the family.
