Opening Day 2026 at Lido Isle Yacht Club

Greetings from Commodore Wendy Webb

It is truly an honor to serve as Commodore of the Lido Isle Yacht Club.

A very special thank you to my supportive Jr. Staff Commodore, Mike Bullock, and his lovely wife, Julie; to my dedicated Flags, Laura Sharp and Carol Schrader; to my outstanding Board, and to each and every volunteer who stepped up—sometimes without even being asked—to help make our 2026 Opening Day such a fabulous success.

Opening Day at Lido Isle Yacht Club is always a special and festive gathering, this year, made even more so with the beautiful sunny weather and harbor breezes. The day started with a parade around the island led by the Newport Beach Fire Department's fire truck, the Newport Harbor Marching Band, and a record amount of outstanding cars. Following the parade, we had the opportunity to recognize our Club, Flags, and Board members. We were honored by Diane Dixon and Joe Stapleton, who presented plaques to LIYC. Our own Don Swanson and Mike O’Shea inspired us with their rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner. And, of course, we officially declared the Bay free of ice!

After the club flags were hoisted by our own Michael Lawler, and the final shot was fired by Cannoneer Brett Anderson, the Harbor Patrol Fire Boat displayed their water salute.

Over 300 members were treated to a fabulous lunch and were entertained by a lively steel drum band. It truly could not have been a better day.

The party continued down to the docks to tour 10 of our beautiful sail and power boats, generously presented by LIYC members. A big thank you goes to each and every one of them!

The day finished with warm friendship, soft breezes, and a spectacular sunset; it was a perfect beginning to a great new season. We hope you enjoy the snapshots and smiles from the weekend.

Here’s to many more memorable events and celebrations in the years ahead!
