A Lifetime Rooted in the Lowcountry
For Rita Hughes Waloszczyk, real estate is more than a profession—it’s a lifelong connection to place, people, and a community she is proud to call home
Rita Hughes Waloszczyk of The Litchfield Company | Christie's International Real Estate, located in Litchfield, brings a lifetime of connection, experience, and genuine love for the Lowcountry to her real estate career.
Born and raised in Greenville, South Carolina, Rita grew up surrounded by real estate. Her father and uncle were real estate developers in Greenville, operating Hughes Real Estate, which gave her an early appreciation for property, development, and the importance of location. While Greenville was home, Pawleys Island held a special place in her heart from the very beginning.
Throughout her childhood, Rita spent summers in Pawleys Island, fully immersed in the simple joys of coastal life. Days were filled with playing in the creek, seining for shrimp, digging for clams with spoons, flounder fishing, and loads of beach time —experiences that shaped her deep appreciation for the area’s natural beauty and laid-back lifestyle.
In the early 1980s, while living in Columbia, South Carolina, Rita obtained her real estate license and began her professional career with a large real estate company. It didn’t take long for her to realize she had found her calling. She loved meeting people, touring homes, and guiding buyers and sellers through meaningful life transitions. Many of the relationships she formed early in her career remain close friendships today, a testament to her personal approach and lasting commitment to her clients.
In 2006, Rita made the move to Pawleys Island, settling where her parents had called home since the late 1970s. With more than 60 years of traveling to and living in the area, she has witnessed firsthand the many changes the Lowcountry has experienced, while still appreciating the timeless charm that makes it so special.
Today, Rita proudly calls Litchfield Country Club home. With its prime location, no homeowners' association, and exceptional convenience, it remains one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in the area. She is encouraged by her British husband, Mike, whom she met and married in 2008. Rita also has two grown sons, five grandchildren, and an adorable Cavachon named Charlie, who brings joy to her home and family.
Rita stays up-to-date on real estate market trends and forecasts to provide her clients with the best guidance. While spring is traditionally the most popular time to sell, it can also be an excellent time to buy. Interest rates are expected to remain relatively steady around 6%, and with the surge of spring listings, buyers may encounter higher prices. Because spring is such an active season, sellers need to work strategically to ensure their property stands out as the most appealing option. Whether you’re looking to buy or sell, Rita is ready to help you develop a plan that aligns perfectly with your goals and timeline.
