Meet Winnie Grace
“She’s brought so much joy back into my home.”
Winnie Grace, a six-year-old Maltipoo mix who found her forever home in Pawleys Island in November 2025.
After losing her beloved Westie last spring, Anne Rexroat stayed connected with Southeast Westie Rescue, hoping that one day the right pup would come along. When Winnie Grace entered the rescue alongside two other dogs — one placed quickly and one heartbreakingly lost — she needed significant dental care and medical attention before she was ready for adoption.
A full medical workup, including a DNA test, revealed something surprising: not a single drop of Westie in her lineage. But once Anne saw her sweet face, she knew she had found her girl.
Just days before bringing Winnie home, Anne received an unexpected call — Winnie Grace had a trust fund established by her previous owner to ensure her care for life. The fund will be administered by the rescue, with any remaining balance eventually benefiting other dogs in need.
Winnie Grace is a gentle, loving soul who is learning how to be a dog again. After spending much of her early life in someone’s lap, she’s now discovering toys, building confidence, and working on her social skills each day.
She loves backyard zoomies, chasing squirrels, and long neighborhood walks with her best doggie friend, Lila. While she’s still mastering her manners — especially around golfers — she’s happiest as a couch cuddler, carefully arranging her favorite blanket into the perfect nest before settling in.
Winnie Grace may only have been part of Anne’s life for a few short months, but she has already brought joy, companionship, and energy back into her home.
If she could speak, Anne is certain she would simply say:
“I love my Mom.”
