Creating Outdoor Spaces to Enjoy for Years to Come

Harbortown Landscaping & Garden Center

For Mike Sipio, landscaping is about more than plants and materials. It’s about creating outdoor spaces where families gather, relax, and build lasting memories.

Originally from just outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mike moved to the Pawleys Island area in 2007 with his family. After years of building homes in the Northeast, his father was ready for warmer weather and a new chapter in the Lowcountry. That move laid the foundation for what would become Harbortown Landscaping & Garden Center.

When Mike first arrived, he started a lawn maintenance company with a long-term vision. His goal was to eventually own a landscape supply yard that also offered installation services. Over time, that vision became a reality.

Today, Harbortown has been serving Pawleys Island and the surrounding Lowcountry for more than 20 years. The business provides bulk landscape materials including mulch, river rock, organic compost, and topsoil, along with a wide variety of plants, palm trees, and sod. Delivery services are available throughout the area, from Georgetown to Myrtle Beach.

In addition to supplying materials, Harbortown offers full landscaping installation. Projects range from updates to existing homes to complete landscaping for new construction. Services include grading, irrigation, plantings, landscape lighting, and hardscaping. What makes Harbortown unique is its ability to provide everything in one place. Customers can purchase materials directly from the yard and also rely on Mike’s team for professional installation.

While the supply yard is an important part of the business, Mike especially enjoys the design and installation side of landscaping.

“There’s nothing better than starting with an idea and watching it come to life right in front of you,” he says.

Harbortown also values its connection to the community. The company supports local organizations and events, including Habitat for Humanity, the Sheriff’s Office, local charity golf outings, and All4Paws animal rescue. Customer appreciation days and monthly sales specials are another way the team gives back.

For homeowners planning a landscaping project, Mike encourages thinking long-term. Choosing plants suited for our coastal climate and allowing room for growth can reduce maintenance in the future. Proper soil preparation and irrigation are key to long-term success. While some projects may appear simple, professional installation ensures proper grading, drainage, and plant placement so the results last for years. This season, Harbortown is expanding its plant selection and bringing in new materials to help homeowners create distinctive outdoor spaces.

At the end of the day, Mike describes his team as laid-back people who genuinely enjoy what they do. Their goal is simple: help customers create outdoor environments they can enjoy with family and friends for years to come.
