Glen Floors

Your neighborhood family-owned flooring, area rugs, shades and blinds company. Glen Floors' history of success spans 90+ years since 1932, and has been under the ownership and employment of the Capobianco Family.

It all began as many immigrant stories do with a young boy and his courage to leave his homeland.
Antonio Capobianco who tended sheep in the Province of Avellino, Italy came to America at age 12 alone in search of a better life. He settled in Corona Queens where he later met and married his wife, Rose. Together they began an American dream of raising a family, buying a home and starting a business.
They moved to Glen Cove in 1920. And Antonio had become a self-made businessman as an insurance salesman who also sold window shades on the side.

His son, Fred at age 14 began working by making deliveries for G & G Furniture when one day he ventured out with a flooring installer and learned how to install Linoleum floors. Later, Fred dropped out of High School and joined his father working out of a small garage in 'The Orchard' dabbling in
whatever the community needed (appliances, mattresses, and flooring). As the demands grew, they opened a small storefront on Glen Street by the old Police Station.

In 1932 The Glen Cove Floor Covering Company was established. Later it became known as what you know it as today - Glen Cove Floors Inc./ DBA Glen Floors.

Fred was a charismatic and magnetic personality. These natural traits made it easy for him to attract loyal customers to his establishment. He was the same in business as he was in his personal life. He always wanted to make others feel comfortable and welcome.

Fred and his 2 brothers, Joe and Percy, who also worked at Glen Floors, eventually ventured out on their own opening their own successful flooring companies. Glen Floors at one time had 5 locations which include a vibrant store location in Hicksville. They had to make the decision to narrow the focus down to the
flagship store location during the recession in the 1980’s.

Fred and his wife, Willena, while focusing on growing the family business “as everyone knows in Glen Cove” were also focusing on growing and providing for their large family of 17 children. Yes... 17 children. In Glen Cove if someone found out you were a Capobianco, the reply was "are you one of the 17?"

Glen Floors is still family owned and currently operated by some of Fred’s sons and daughters (Carol, Jane, & Jerry) and his son-in-law (Mike Capobianco). Mike along with their store manager of 40 years, Lou-Ann Thompson, and a long-term staff of like-minded employees help drive the business forward by continuing to maintain and to grow their client base serving all of Long Island.

The tradition of the Capobianco family is in their work ethic. And the motto that “family comes first” has proven beneficial for all employees to enjoy a successful work / family-life balance. The relaxed environment is apparent each time you enter our showroom. You will be greeted with a friendly face and a smile eager to help in any way.

Glen Floors provides our community with a wide selection of flooring (vinyl and wood), carpeting, area rugs and window treatments. This vast selection is designed to accommodate everyone’s style and budget. “Fashion for your floors since 1932” is not only a tag line, but a belief that flooring sets the stage for all it holds upon it. Glen Floors remains highly respected not only in our downtown & local communities, but throughout the flooring industry.

What Fred and his family established is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and community service which each of the family members and its employees uphold. The flooring business is in the heart and soul of the Glen Floors team. They work to maintain the integrity of the family and to honor of those who paved the way for them to enjoy a good life. We hope to remain in the beautiful city of Glen Cove for many more years to come.
