Kathleen Seacat’s Mission with Sunday Suppers

For Kathleen Seacat, making a difference in the lives of Afghan refugee families isn’t just about giving—it’s about restoring dignity, stability, and a sense of home. Through her work with Sunday Suppers, she plays a crucial role in furnishing apartments for families who fled their homeland after assisting the U.S. military, ensuring they have the essentials to rebuild their lives.
Kathleen and the grassroots team of about 20 volunteers meet with families to assess their needs, then source furniture, kitchenware, rugs, toys, and bikes—all through community donations. Coordinating pickups, deliveries, and setups takes dedication, organization, and a bit of muscle. "It takes a lot of coordination, note-taking, and making spreadsheets,” she shares. “ It’s always changing, so you just have to go with the flow.”
Beyond home setups, she also helps organize Sunday Suppers, a monthly dinner that raises rent money for these families, who often arrive with nothing. On June 1, Kathleen will be hosting a Sunday Supper at Stoney’s, inviting neighbors to support the cause.
“It’s probably the hardest volunteer job I’ve ever done,” she says, “but also the most fulfilling.”
