Step Right Up for a Cause: Meet the Chairs Behind the Mockingbird Elementary Carnival

If you’ve ever wondered what makes the Mockingbird Elementary Carnival such a “main attraction,” look no further than this year’s co-chairs, Lindsey Morgan and Mary Cary Peterson. With kids the same ages - second graders, kindergartners, and Pre-K fours - these dynamic moms have made PTA involvement a family affair since 2023.
For Lindsey and Mary Cary, volunteering is more than just a way to stay connected to the school - it’s about helping create a vibrant, supportive community for every student. “We truly love being involved in the PTA,” they shared. “It gives us the chance to support our kids’ education and contribute to a positive school community for all families.”
And while the carnival may be filled with rides, games, and cotton candy, its purpose goes far beyond the midway. Proceeds from the October 18th event will directly support key programs that enrich Mockingbird Elementary, including:
• A flourishing school garden that offers hands-on science and sustainability learning.
• Curriculum enhancements with updated resources across all grade levels.
• Teacher grants that provide tools for creativity and innovation in the classroom.
• Support for the Deaf Education program, ensuring equity and specialized resources.
• Campus-wide improvements to create safe, engaging, and welcoming spaces for students.
On average, the duo dedicates 2-4 hours each week to planning and coordinating, proof that making a difference doesn’t always require a “three-ring circus” worth of time. Instead, it’s about showing up consistently and inviting others to get involved.
“We have several sponsorship roles we’re still hoping to fill to make this year’s carnival a success,” they said. “Whether you attend, sponsor, or volunteer, every bit of support helps us strengthen our school.” (Want to pitch in? Visit this link QR CODE).
Both families will be front and center at the carnival - Lindsey with husband Neal and children Maxwell (7), Maisie (5), and Major (4), and Mary Cary with husband Pete and kids Sam (7), Kate (5), and Charlie (4). With parents like these leading the charge, the Mockingbird Elementary Carnival is sure to be the “ticket” of the season.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 18th, from 11 AM to 3 PM, and come join the fun. After all, it’s not just about games and prizes - it’s about building a stronger, more inclusive, and inspiring future for every student.
