Margarita Watermelon
At your next backyard gathering, guests might skip the bar in favor of a serving (or two) of this Margarita Watermelon. The popular juicy fruit is a summertime favorite for everyone. Now, you can turn it into a preferred adult cookout treat.
Texans love their margaritas in all forms. The origin of the famous salty tequila cocktail varies depending on who tells the story. One of the most plausible theories suggests that the Margarita evolved from the Tequila Daisy, a popular cocktail in the 1930s. David Daniel “Danny” Negrete is credited by some with creating the cocktail in 1936 in Mexico for his girlfriend, Margarita, who enjoyed salty drinks. However, others insist that bar owner Carlos (Danny) Herrera invented the drink in 1938 for a Ziegfeld showgirl named Marjorie King.
Texans were determined not to be outdone in the Margarita sweepstakes, with some asserting that it was first mixed and named at the legendary Balinese Room in Galveston in 1948 by head bartender Santos Cruz for singer Peggy Lee (Margarita is Spanish for Peggy).
