Summerhill Pools • Outdoor Living

A Legacy of Craftsmanship & Making Memories Outdoors

Summerhill Pools • Outdoor Living began with a vision, a relentless work ethic, and hands-on experience. In 1978, Mark McCaffrey started his journey in the pool industry, learning every aspect of pool care, construction, and design. Over time, he realized he wanted to do more than maintain pools—he wanted to build them with integrity, superior materials, and expert craftsmanship. In September 1989, Mark founded Summerhill Pools, dedicated to creating high-quality custom pools that would stand the test of time.

Mark’s passion for backyard transformations wasn’t just a career—it became a family legacy. His daughter, Michelle Reed, grew up watching her father’s dedication to designing stunning outdoor spaces. Raised in Lake Highlands, she graduated from Lake Highlands High School and pursued a corporate career, but something was missing. In 1994, she returned to her roots, bringing her energy and vision to Summerhill. With a commitment to quality, creativity, and customer-first service, Michelle set out to take the family business to the next level.

It turns out, Michelle’s husband and fellow Lake Highlands graduate, David Reed, was destined to be part of the story too. David’s father owned a pool excavation company, and both fathers had been connected for years without the kids realizing it. David later co-owned the excavation business, gaining valuable expertise. In 2005, David joined Michelle and Mark, and by combining their knowledge, they continued to expand Summerhill’s services and strengthen its reputation as a leader in luxury outdoor living.

With Mark now retired, Michelle, David, and their son Lain continue to keep the business family-owned and deeply connected to the community.

Over the years, Summerhill Pools • Outdoor Living has become a staple in Dallas’ luxury outdoor scene, transforming backyards into beautiful extensions of the home. Their expertise in 3D pool design, an in-house landscape architect, and top-quality materials allow them to seamlessly blend form, function, and beauty into every project.

Their 40-year-proven process ensures that every detail is handled with precision. They stay ahead of industry advancements by attending trade shows, studying new trade materials, and working closely with top manufacturers. “You’ll regularly see manufacturers stopping by with lunch or donuts to educate our team on the latest technologies and materials coming to market,” says Michelle. “We always want to be ahead of the curve.”

But Summerhill isn’t just about the build—it’s about the people they serve. “The families we work with become part of our family,” Michelle shares. “Every crew member knows their names, their stories, and their vision for their space.” That personal touch extends beyond construction through their weekly pool service, ensuring that every pool they build remains clean, safe, and running smoothly year-round.

And it’s not just their pools—they maintain pools they didn’t build too. “At the end of the day, we just want to make sure our neighbors can enjoy their backyards and make lasting memories,” Michelle adds.

Summerhill is more than just a business—it’s a pillar of the East Dallas community. Their showroom is a welcoming space where homeowners can explore designs and speak directly with the team. They are also lifelong members of Saint John’s Episcopal Church and are passionate about giving back, regularly supporting Feed Lake Highlands through food and pantry drives.

What Sets Summerhill Apart? According to Michelle, it all comes down to expertise and experience. “We have team members who have been with us anywhere from 12 years to over 26 years,” she says. “Our landscape architect ensures that slopes and angles are properly measured, so when we provide a quote, we know the design is achievable. Too often, we hear horror stories of homeowners facing unexpected change orders costing tens of thousands of dollars because a designer created plans that physically couldn’t be built.”

She continues, “Our project managers are hands-on, checking work daily—not just driving by, but making sure every detail is right. If something isn’t up to our standards, we fix it. As a licensed and insured family-owned company, we strive to complete projects efficiently, with quality craftsmanship, and within budget expectations.”
