Meet the Doughty-Reker Family: Building Community, One Occasion at a Time

Welcome to the vibrant and stylish world of Andy Doughty and Steven Reker, a couple who have made community, design, a good backyard hang session, and a well-curated party central to their life in Greenland Hills. Married for eight years and together for nearly 15, this dynamic duo shares a love for beautiful spaces, great friends, and meaningful connections.
Andy, 34, is an interior designer and owner of his own firm, A+S Collective Designs, while Steven, 37, works as a petroleum engineer and business partner. Both are Texas Tech and Texas A&M alumni — Steven attended Texas A&M for undergrad, and Andy completed his graduate degree there. Andy has his undergraduate degree from Texas Tech, and Steven earned his MBA from Tech. Originating in West Texas (Midland, to be exact), work opportunities eventually led them to the tree-lined streets of the Dallas M Streets.
Their Greenland Hills journey is a little unique. In 2019, they bought their first home on Mercedes Avenue. After two years, they moved to Lowest Greenville for a change of scenery, but the M Streets called them back. They've now been back for a year and a half, this time on Vanderbilt, and they couldn't be happier.

Home is Where the Party Is
If there’s one thing Andy and Steven do well, it’s entertain. Whether it’s their annual St. Patrick’s Day backyard bash, front yard Halloween gumbo tailgate (a nod to Andy’s Southeast Texas roots), or their elaborate Christmas party with a fully decked-out home and a house filled to the brim with friends and family, the Doughty-Reker house is a neighborhood staple for fun and togetherness. Making use of all of their space, they host a Friendsgiving with one continuous table set up in the backyard to seat 20 of their closest friends.
For day-to-day fun, they enjoy evening walks through the neighborhood, soaking in the charm of the century-old homes and lush landscaping. Both are regulars at Social Mechanics gym and its affiliated run club, where they've built community through shared fitness goals. When not working in Dallas or West Texas, they are both likely exploring new design concepts that respect the architectural integrity of their 1920s home.

Designing with Purpose
As an interior designer living in a 100-year-old home, Andy brings intention and respect to every renovation. “We strive to make selections that complement the architecture and original detailing,” he explains. “We love modern amenities, but our goal is to stay true to the uniqueness of our home’s architectural detailing and history.”

Advice to New Neighbors
For families new to the M Streets, Andy and Steven have one clear piece of advice: get to know your neighbors. During the pandemic, when they were still new to Dallas, an invitation to a front-yard happy hour turned into a lifelong friendship. “That became our place of refuge as we all endured the pandemic together. Community is everything, and there is such a strong one here.”
Today, those connections continue to thrive. The couple has built deep friendships with neighbors just houses away; they travel together, celebrate milestones, and support each other through life’s ups and downs.
