Farm Life Protectors
Hi there, Manlius friends!
We’re Toby and Sadie Mae, your local farm pups, and we’re so excited to introduce ourselves! We’re both Australian Shepherds, Toby is a proud five-year-old tri-color, and Sadie Mae is a graceful twelve-year-old blue merle (though she prefers to be called wise, or majestic, not old!). We also share our home with our two brothers, Winston and Ander, a Russell terrier and German Sheppard/ Chow mix, and together we make quite the lively crew.
I’m Toby; the alpha, the protector, and the official herdsman of the family. I take my job very seriously. Whether it’s keeping the chickens in line during a disagreement, helping dad with projects around the house, guiding the kids back to the play area if they wander too far, or simply staying close to make sure everyone’s safe, I’m always on duty. I’m not afraid of much—actually, I don’t think I’m afraid of anything at all. But if you ask me what I love most, it’s my family and having a purpose here on the farm. Well… that and my frisbee. Just say the magic word frisbee, and I’ll search the yard, find it, and bring it right back, ready for as many rounds of fetch as you can handle!
And I’m Sadie Mae; also known as the princess, or as Mom likes to call me, the “fur mama” of the house. I enjoy the quieter side of life, lounging in a warm sunbeam on the cool kitchen tile, soaking up belly rubs, and keeping a watchful eye on everything around me. While I may not always be interested in playing, I take my role as lookout very seriously. If anything suspicious appears—squirrels, birds, deer, or even a sneaky fox—you can count on me (with my brothers right by my side) to make sure they don’t stay long. I have a special adoration for babies and toddlers, and I’m happiest when I’m close by, keeping them company… especially if snacks are involved. I’ll gladly help clean up any crumbs that fall to the ground! I do prefer to avoid loud noises like air compressors or hammering, which can sometimes be hard to avoid on the farm in the warmer months, when that happens, I stay close to Mom until everything feels calm again. What I love most is being part of this family, surrounded by little ones, sunshine, and the peaceful rhythm of home.
Life here is full of movement, laughter, and love, and we wouldn’t trade it for anything. We are so grateful for our family, our home, and the important roles we each get to play every single day.
With wagging tail nubs,
Toby & Sadie Mae
