Meat Your Neighbors
Steigs Grillhouse builds on the Steigerwald family’s 90-year history operating Liehs & Steigerwald, a traditional butcher shop on Grant Boulevard in Syracuse. The family business is known for producing meats such as hot dogs, liverwurst, bologna, bacon, bratwurst, and other sausages using recipes and methods passed down through generations, while sourcing beef and pork locally.
The Manlius venture, developed by Jeff Steigerwald and business partner Chuck Madonna, expands that heritage into a combined restaurant, bar, and retail butcher shop. Nestled in the heart of the Village between local Manlius favorites like A.W. Wander, Pavones, Mrs. Kelders Cupcakes, and Seneca Street Brew Pub, Steigs will only compliment the area with another option for food and drink in addition to the option of quality meats for purchase.
Having lived in Manlius during his high school years, Jeff along with his wife Joni, came back to raise their family in Manlius in 2003 with four daughters who all attended Fayetteville-Manlius schools. As the business has developed, with locations over the years in Clay, Downtown Syracuse, and a portable food truck, it has always been important to keep the business from becoming stale and moving toward what drives the market. Always watching the happenings in the Manlius area, an opportunity to expand to the area has been an interest for Steigerwald for quite some time. With the Village’s resurgence of businesses in recent years, it only proved to be a good time for the newest endeavor. The renovation of the old bank building on East Seneca Street into the new Steigs Grillhouse was a family affair that took close to a year to come to fruition. With significant help from Drew Steigerwald (Jeff’s nephew), and many local friends and family members, the Grillhouse is now open for the community to enjoy.
