DAISY: TINY IN HER MIND, HUGE IN OUR HEARTS

Daisy is a one year old female Bernese Basset Hound mix, also known as a hush basset. Katie and her family adopted Daisy from the Legacy of Hope Dog Rescue in Tulsa. Daisy was adopted to be the companion of the other family dog, Dax. She was also chosen because Katie is the only girl in the family, so she wanted another girl to share some sisterly solidarity with. Daisy has a white, brown, and black coat. Her fur is fairly long, just like that of the Bernese mountain dog, but she has long floppy ears and sad, downturned eyes, like the Basset Hound.
Daisy is a very energetic dog, partially because she’s still a puppy, but also because her breed is known for being very animated. Some of her favorite games are fetch and racing. She loves racing other dogs, however, her legs are on the stubbier side, so she isn’t all that fast. She still believes she’s the fastest out of all of her doggie pals, which she meets at Doggie Daycare. She also likes wrestling with other dogs and humans alike. Her favorite toys are either stuffed animals or sticks, but her stuffies end up pretty beat up after a couple of weeks. Her favorite thing to do with sticks is, of course, fetch, but she doesn’t exactly fetch the sticks. Instead, she enjoys letting the sticks hit her in the face, then picking them up and bringing them back.
Not only does she like playing with sticks, but she also enjoys consuming them for a midday snack. She also likes dog treats and kibble, but sticks take the prize for number one nosh.
Daisy loves people, and she doesn’t play favorites when it comes to humans. In fact, her favorite spot in the house is wherever people are sitting. Or, more specifically, exactly where people are sitting. If she sees someone sitting in a chair, she will want to sit in said chair, and will do everything in her power to squeeze in. This would be easy if she were the five pound chihuahua that she thinks she is, but she’s actually a sixty pound Basset, so most of the time her attempts to share the throne result in a very confused human barely clinging on to the edge of their seat, covered in dog drool. At night, she likes to lay in nooks in the house, which, again, she can’t quite fit into, but she’s trying her best.
Daisy loves being outside as much as she likes being inside with her family. Her favorite weather is cold, wintery weather. She also doesn’t mind exploring the great outdoors on a hot day.
Katie’s favorite thing about Daisy is that she’s sweet, fun, and a good match for Dax, who is more quiet and shy. Daisy loves meeting everybody, and is a very social dog. Katie’s advice to future pet owners would be “Find a pet that fits your family, it’s a long term commitment.” We hope to see Daisy around Maple Ridge for many years to come.
