From City Life to Neighborhood Fun,
Meet the Scaturro Family.
Q: Can you introduce your family and share a bit about them, including names and ages?
A: Frank is a lawyer and writer. He works for a non-profit, and his specialty is constitutional law. Outside of work, he has written in that field as well as in the field of American history, and has been involved in historic preservation since he was a teenager. Kathleen has worked as an editor and plays the traditional Irish harp. Four-year-old John attends a Montessori program at St. Mary’s in Delaware. He loves books, trains, and music, and enjoys striking up conversations wherever we go. Little brother Grant, one year old, is cheery and affectionate, and loves riding big brother’s Roadster Trike; he is looking forward to playing outdoors in the sandbox again when warmer weather returns.
Q: How long have you lived in the neighborhood? Where are you originally from, and what brought you here?
A: We moved from an urban, high-rise apartment in Maryland, near D.C., into our new home in Medallion Estates a year ago. Frank is originally from New York (Long Island), Kathleen from eastern Ohio (Steubenville). Kathleen’s grandmother grew up on a farm in the Columbus area, and she has family across the State, including in Columbus, so Ohio was a natural choice when it came to purchasing a home, and Frank has always loved Ohio’s presidential and Civil War history. We are enjoying exploring the Columbus area, and are looking forward to making new friendships in the area.
Q: What college / university did you attend? What subject(s) did you major in, and what degree(s) did you obtain?
A: Frank studied History/Political Science at Columbia University (Columbia College) for undergrad, then University of Pennsylvania Law School. Kathleen studied Philosophy at Franciscan University at Steubenville, then did graduate work in an interdisciplinary program at the University of Dallas.
Q: How did you and your spouse meet?
A: We initially met online through a faith-based dating site, although ironically, we soon discovered we had many mutual friends in the D.C. community.
Q: What are your professions?
A: Frank is vice-president and senior counsel at JCN. Kathleen recently resigned her position as an editor, and is gearing up to play the Irish harp again, for corporate and non-profit events.
Q: Tell us about your kids and what extracurricular pursuits they are involved in?
A: John has had a ton of fun learning to swim at Aqua-Tots, thanks to a great tip from our next-door neighbors in Medallion. We also make regular visits to COSI, the Franklin Park Conservancy, the zoo, and local libraries.
Q: How do you celebrate holidays or special occasions as a family?
A: We like to be on the lookout for reasons to celebrate, even if it just means lighting a candle to make a meal special. Depending on the holiday, we might visit Grandpa and all the cousins (and aunts and uncles) in Steubenville, and we love it when Grandma and Grandpa visit from New York.
Q: What are your favorite places to visit around the community?
A: It was an adjustment moving from an urban setting where we could walk places and hop on the metro. Here, we use our bike trailer—and John uses his Roadster Trike—to explore the neighborhood. We enjoy picnicking on “Bambi Boulder,” named for the deer on the golf course. We even biked into Uptown Westerville once (although I don’t know how soon we’ll be doing that again!) We enjoy discovering restaurants in the area, including the rich variety in Westerville, where Cardinal Pizza, Asterisk, and Northstar Cafe are favorites. Kathleen is always on the lookout for nature play spaces for the boys, and we hope to get into hiking, camping, and boating as a family when the boys are older.
Q: Do you participate in any social activities or events in the neighborhood?
A: We are active in various parishes (St. John Neumann in Sunbury) and school (St. Mary's in Delaware) activities. Frank additionally belongs to the Delaware County Republican Club East, Civil War Round Table of Central Ohio, and Westerville Knights of Columbus.
Q: Do you participate in any philanthropic events or work with any charity organizations?
A: We are involved in Springs of Love, an organization that was developed locally but has become national, which encourages and supports Catholic families interested or involved in adoption and fostering. Also, Frank has recently spearheaded a drive to collect petitions and secure legislation to authorize a "Land of U.S. Grant" license plate in the State of Ohio. (Proceeds from that would support Grant's birthplace in Point Pleasant and his boyhood home in Georgetown. More info on that here: www.thelandofusgrant.org/new-blog/2026/1/16/land-of-us-grant-license-plate.)
Q: Describe your favorite family memory in the neighborhood so far. What's your favorite part of living in the neighborhood?
A: We love knowing that our children will grow up in a wonderful neighborhood. The previous owners' children dubbed the area under the pine trees "Mystery Cove," and we plan to keep up that tradition. Our favorite family memory so far is trick-or-treating: Our neighbors on one side had a cheerful bonfire going, and all the neighbors were so friendly with the children. Another great memory is discovering that another family with small children lives nearby, and new families with small children have moved in on our cul-de-sac.
