Coutts Kids Have Animal Instinct
Twin Sisters Riley and Sloane.
Since the earliest instances of recorded literature, the dynamic relationships of twins have been a source of inspiration for storytellers. In Biblical stories, Jacob and Esau didn’t set a very good example. Romulus and Remus have a more favorable backstory as the mythical founders of Rome.
Muirfield’s Scotscraig Court is home to another pair of twins who just might start something big someday—Riley and Sloane Coutts. The seven-year-olds, who are in first grade at Bailey Elementary, share a lot more than DNA. The Coutts kids both have a love for animals. Riley wants to be a veterinarian, and Sloane envisions a career as an animal rescuer. Made-for-television, anyone?!?
Speaking of television, their favorite shows are completely in character. Sloane is partial to Gabby’s Dollhouse, featuring host Gabby, who transforms to join with her cat pals (the Gabby Cats!) in their dollhouse adventures. Creature Cases, Riley’s favorite show, is centered on a snow leopard and kit fox detective team that solves mysteries with help from a cast of other animal friends.
The Coutts kids obviously love visiting the zoo. Riley likes the stingrays. “I like to feed them,” she says. Sloane’s favorites are the sea lions. “I like when they swim past me.” Agreed! They even find time for up close animal adventures on vacation. “We love the beach!” they exclaim. “This summer we swam with dolphins in St. Thomas and saw sea urchins and a squid while snorkeling in Turks and Caicos!” You gotta love the enthusiasm!
The twins also enjoy crafting, science experiments, and playing soccer, lacrosse and basketball. Their tastes diverge a little when it comes to school—Riley is a math person, but Sloane likes writing. And at dinner Sloane prefers cheese ravioli, while Riley would opt for steak.
When it comes to play time, both agree on their favorite spot: “any playground!” they say. Do you think they recreate some animal adventures while there? Maybe. Or they’ll make some of their own real-life animal adventures rescuing and treating pets in need someday. Whatever it is, Riley and Sloane will probably have a great time doing it together.
