Meet Jackson: Four Paws, One Big Heart
They say dogs are a man’s best friend, but Jackson, the labrador-beagle mix, proves the bond goes far beyond that.
The twelve year old labrador-beagle is the furry companion of Kelsey Green and her family. Their journey together started when the Greens met Jackson at Anti-Cruelty Society, an animal rescue in downtown Chicago, where they previously lived. The connection was undeniable and Jackson instantly became a treasured member of the family.
Though he is indeed a dog, Jackson prefers to think of himself as a human, often choosing the company of people over his fellow canines. It’s no wonder the Greens now consider him their child rather than just their pet, and Kelsey lovingly refers to him as her first-born.
Jackson’s favorite pastimes include lounging on the couch, basking on the patio, tagging along on trips, and above all, begging for snacks. If given a choice, food would win every time. He adores treats, and probably enjoys more than he should. When the Greens lived in Chicago, they would often take Jackson to the farmer markets, where he always demonstrated his knack for sniffing out croissants under tables and emerging with them tightly clamped in his mouth.
The pup’s love for food has also gotten him in sticky situations. When the Greens’ daughter was two, Jackson stole a popsicle from her and swallowed it whole, including the stick, which landed him at the vet. The emergency surgery took half of Jackson’s bowel, and nearly took his life, but ultimately saved him. Needless to say, he is no longer allowed near treats with sticks.
Jackson is the Greens’ best friend, but he’s also so much more than that - he is their constant companion and a source of joy, especially to their daughter, Olivia. Throughout the past six years, he has been a big brother to her, a protector, and a best buddy. From playful mornings in the backyard to quiet evenings curled up on the couch, Jackson has become such a special part of the family, leaving pawprints on all their hearts.
