Marshal the Charming Siberian Husky

The debate between dogs and cats may never be settled. Fido or fluffy—it’s a matter of personal preference. Some prefer both. Say this for dogs though: their pedigrees get way more attention than their feline counterparts.

This would come as no surprise to Marshal, who happens to be a Siberian husky belonging to the Halsey family of Davington Dr.  “He’s a quiet, loving presence,” says his owner Pat. “He is always sitting within 10 feet of someone.”

Marshal is the family’s first and only pet. Alas, he’s more of a people pup. “He is not pet-friendly,” says Pat. “He truly loves all people,” she says, noting Marshal’s tendency to want to give everyone hugs. He is especially fond of Ann, the local UPS route driver. “She is definitely a highlight of his day.” Food is right up there, too. “He will learn any trick or sequence to get a treat,” says Pat. “He especially loves whipped cream and peanut butter.”

Sometimes Marshal’s appetite gets the better of his manners. “We can't leave food unsupervised,” Pat explains. “One time I left the room and returned to find him standing with his head in a pan of enchiladas,” she recalls. “Another time we turned our backs, and he ate 1/2 a sheet cake. He was so quiet both times!”

Obviously, huskies are very smart. Marshal displays his intelligence in other ways, too. “When our son Sam volunteered with Miracle League, Marshal innately knew to be gentle with the player,” Pat shares. “With neurotypical siblings he would play rougher.”

Marshal loves taking walks (also very husky of him!), going anywhere in a car and visiting grandma’s house. The husky might be a popular choice for a mascot, but Marshal is more than that. In the Halsey household, Marshal is one husky that is truly a member of the family.
