Meet a Real Life Inventor!

Millie O’Donnell is one of the many students who took part in the Invention Convention, but unlike many, she made it all the way to the National Invention Convention in Detroit, Michigan. After the first Invention Convention at Deer Run, she was selected to advance to districts where she presented to two judges in person. Then, she made it to regionals where she presented to two judges again, but this time virtually. Finally, she made it all the way to nationals where she was able to present to three judges in person. While she was there she even had the chance to present her idea to Shark Tank judges!
The assignment was to create an invention that can solve an everyday problem. While Millie was brainstorming she came across the problem of putting a bandage on your hand. No matter how hard you try a bandage on your hand never works out. That's when Millie came up with the Handage, the Handage is a bandage made specifically for your hand.
Millie says the hardest part of making it this far was sticking with it, she has been working on the Handage for a little over a year and she says it has been hard switching from her other activities to the Handage. Her favorite part about this experience was getting to meet other inventors because she says it was fun getting to hear the ideas they came up with.
Her advice for other inventors is to not get intimidated by higher-tech inventions or people with more experience in inventing than you. Millie hopes that she can start a company and start selling the handage. Maybe we will see her invention in stores someday!
