Shepperds Find Their Way Back to Muirfield

Tyler and Melanie graduated from Dublin High Schools and returned to Muirfield in 2018 after they were married.

Many families are drawn to the charm of Muirfield, and Tyler and Melanie Shepperd are prime examples. Melanie, a lifelong Muirfield native, graduated from Coffman High School. While Tyler, originally from Sawmill Forest, grew up attending Scioto before continuing on to Iowa State, to play hockey.

The couple met by accident—literally. “A friend and I were supposed to go to a bar to watch the Cavs game, and there was a bad accident near that area,” Melanie recalls. They changed their plans and, as chance would have it, they sat next to Tyler and his roommate at the new destination. “We all became friends,” says Melanie. “Tyler and I were inseparable after that.” After getting married in 2018, the couple returned to Muirfield and now reside in the Lochslee Community, where Melanie proudly serves as the HOA President.

The Shepperds have two children, both attending Columbus Academy: Connor, 7 ½, is in second grade, and his younger sister Brynn, 6, is in Kindergarten. Melanie has always been actively involved in the children's school activities and this year is serving as a co-chair grade-level coordinator for the Kindergarten Parent Association at Columbus Academy.

Both kids recently participated in the Columbus Blue Jackets' LTP Hockey Program, where they not only had a great time but also developed important skills to enhance their hockey game. Additionally, Brynn is an aspiring dancer at NorthPointe Dance Academy, while Connor has proudly made the Club Ohio West U8 soccer team, where Melanie is excited to be the team manager this season.

The Shepperds have a modest pet menagerie at home as well. An aquarium holds fish and a few snails. Their house on Strome Court was also the summer home of the school geckos, Duke and Count Geckula. “I liked holding the geckos and playing with them,” says Connor.

Tyler is a driver for UPS. Despite his busy schedule, he finds time to squeeze in a men’s roller hockey league and loves to play golf. The Shepperds enjoy extended family dinners on Sunday with Melanie’s sister and her mother, who still lives in the home where they grew up. Easy access to grandma and other amenities is a major Muirfield attraction. “The children love the ability to walk to the playground, the ponds, the pool and Grandma’s house,” says Melanie.

The family’s favorite vacation spot is a generational gem. “We go to our cottage in Muskoka, Canada every year,” Tyler explains. The property has been in Tyler’s family since 1898. “We spend summertime there as often as we can,” he says. The Shepperds also visit Tyler’s family in North Carolina and his parents, who live right on Lake Erie, in Cleveland.

Around town, the Shepperds like date nights at North Market in Dublin because of the variety of food. Rooster’s is the children’s first choice when they get to pick a restaurant. The family enjoys Dell’s or Graeter’s ice cream every Friday to celebrate the kids’ accomplishments for the week.

As a Realtor with Keller Williams Capital Partners, Melanie truly values everything Muirfield has to offer. “We love Muirfield for its beautiful green spaces and well-maintained environment,” she says. The family cherishes the local adventures they can share together right in their neighborhood. “Having lived in Dublin for most of our lives, we continue to appreciate all it has to offer,” Melanie adds.
