A Culinary Adventure enjoyed at the Locust Table

Hanger Steak with savory demi-glacé, paired with fingerling potatoes.

Hey, have you heard about The Locust Table Restaurant? It’s a neighborhood cafe in downtown Powell that’s got a globally inspired menu with locally sourced ingredients and scratch-made dishes. It’s like a culinary adventure!

When you walk in, you’re greeted by a bright and cheerful atmosphere. The restaurant features work from local artists, such as dining tables, wooden cutting boards and wooden goblets.  It all adds a touch of charm to the decor.

The owner, Karla Woolley, was inspired to create this restaurant by her great-grandfather’s Twin Locust Farm, which had two ancient Honey Locust trees. She opened The Locust Table in 2020 to celebrate friends and family sharing meals made with high quality ingredients. Executive Chef Mike Gadd recently launched their dinner service and organized a gourmet chef dinner series, with more events planned in the future.

  • Now, let’s talk about the food. The shareables (appetizers) were amazing! The smoky Gouda pimento dip was creamy and flavorful with a nice warm note. The made-to-order guacamole was fresh and vibrant and the homemade focaccia bread with honey butter was warm, fluffy, and addictive.

  • For the entrees. We tried everything on the dinner entree menu and the hanger steak was our favorite. It was tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned with a savory demi-glacé, paired with fingerling potatoes. The roasted chicken was seasoned to perfection, moist and tender. And the seasonal house pasta, a creamy fettuccine with asparagus and peas, was fresh and delightful.

  • For dessert. We indulged in the olive oil and dark chocolate mousse, which was decadently rich with deep chocolate notes. The fresh berry streusel, filled with ripe strawberries and blueberries, had a crunchy topping that perfectly complemented the sweet fruit.

  • And don’t forget about the drinks! The cocktails were a standout, crafted with fresh ingredients and unique flavor profiles that showcased thoughtful preparation.

The service was impeccable, enhancing the inviting atmosphere that made us feel at home. We’re so excited to return and experience the newly renovated patio area.

The Locust Table is a must-visit for foodies! They serve up delicious breakfast, lunch, and brunch every day from 8 AM to 2 PM, and they’ve recently added dinner on Wednesdays through Sundays from 5 PM to 9 PM.  So if you’re looking for a great place to eat in Powell, be sure to check out The Locust Table, 16 Crossing St, Powell.
