Glick Pool Luau Party Celebrates an Era

Water Balloon Toss

The Glick Pool Luau Party was inspired by the Muirfield Social Activities Committee as a way to celebrate the Glick Road Pool before its planned demolition and future renovation. Built in 1987, the pool has been the backdrop for countless Muirfield memories, including Muirfins swim meets, movies under the stars and family pizza nights.

Long-time Muirfield resident and Social Activities Committee member Shannon Richardson proposed the idea of an end-of-season celebration. The committee and Board embraced it, and planning began in the spring. Richardson and committee chairman Ray DiRossi worked with Association staff, Chris Carter and Walter Zeier, along with Pool Manager, Jacob Nally, to create a fun, family-focused event for residents.

Residents were invited to dress in Hawaiian attire and say “Aloha” and “Mahalo” to the Glick Road Pool. The festivities included tropical slushies and discounted Papa John’s pizza, leis, Hawaiian music and chalk for residents to leave messages on the pool deck.

Family-friendly competitions included a Tropical Fruit Pool Relay Race, underwater treasure hunts, diving board contests featuring the smallest splash, biggest splash and belly flop, as well as limbo, a two-person water balloon toss and a hula hoop contest. Winners received gift cards or free concession items as the pool prepared to close.

To cap off the celebration, pool staff dropped tropical fruit from the top of the slide, officially kicking off the demolition “smash.”
The event was a hit, with residents offering enthusiastic feedback and suggesting it become an annual tradition. The committee looks forward to creating more pool events in the future.

Richardson shared, “We had a lot of fun putting this event together. It was a team effort for all those involved—MSAC members, community residents, pool staff and Association members. I have so many memories growing up at and around the Glick Road Pool, and I am looking forward to creating more with the new pool layout.”

Be on the lookout for communications about a dedication day celebrating the reopening of the Glick Pool in spring 2027.
