Sometimes it feels like all roads in Ohio lead to Columbus. Veronica is from Cincinnati, and Garrett is from Masury, a village in northeast Ohio. Veronica went to the University of Notre Dame for college. Garrett went to Ohio State. 

They both ended up at Ohio State for law school, where they crossed paths a few times during orientation. One day Garrett noticed that Veronica was also left-handed. He said, “You’re a leftie too?” as Veronica recalls. “We lefties have to stick together.” The two southpaws have been inseparable ever since.

Garrett is senior managing counsel for American Honda Motor Company. Veronica is a creative director for LawPods, a podcast production agency that produces podcasts for lawyers. “We moved to our neighborhood (The Fairways) in July 2025,” says Veronica. “It’s a beautiful neighborhood, and we are very grateful to have received such a warm welcome from our neighbors.” The Craveners have a daughter, Evelyn, and a golden retriever named Goldie. 

They also have a pink axolotl named Barni (think female spelling of Barney). Yes, a pink axolotl. “We initially weren’t looking for a second pet, but Evelyn really wanted one,” explains Veronica. For the record, a pink axolotl is an aquatic species of salamander. The Craveners didn’t give in—they made Evelyn work for it. She had to earn the money to buy an axolotl, learn how to take care of it and present her research. “Evelyn completed all the tasks, so we had to follow through,” Veronica laughs.

In addition to being a proud axolotl owner, Evelyn, age 11, is also an artist. She loves drawing, painting, reading and writing her own books. “We are always on the lookout for great art classes for kids,” says Veronica. A recent favorite was a comic book making class. On the athletic side, Evelyn is currently running cross country for her school’s team and will play softball in the spring.

Every Friday is movie and takeout night, a tradition the family looks forward to each week. “We rotate who gets to pick the restaurant and movie,” says Veronica. Other favorite traditions include dressing in themed costumes every Halloween—last year, the family celebrated as Hello Kitty and friends. This year, as featured in the cover photo, they transformed into famous pop stars: Evelyn as Michael Jackson, Veronica as Cyndi Lauper, and Garrett as Barry Gibb.  The family also enjoys making memories through their annual Valentine’s Day dinner reservation at White Castle and a pie-making contest each March 14 in celebration of “Pi Day.”

The Craveners own Lake Fork Schoolhouse, a one-room schoolhouse turned cabin, which is near Mohican State Park, Amish Country and Snow Trails. Their cabin, Maui and St. Bart’s are favorite getaway destinations.

At home, the family enjoys arts and crafts, playing Nintendo, eating good food, watching movies, cooking and baking. Their favorite dinners include Veronica’s homemade pasta and Garrett’s pull-apart pizza. Evelyn’s ice cream sundaes are a hit for dessert.

Life on Preston Mill Way is wonderful. “The neighbors are great!” says Veronica. “We also enjoy the trails throughout Muirfield and being close to the Glick Road pool.” For the Craveners, Muirfield is the perfect middle ground in the center of the state. “Enjoy it!” says Veronica. “It’s the most beautiful community we’ve ever lived in.”
