N Zone Sports, a local community sports program, is helping to shape the next generation of athletes in Westmoreland County. Founded in the winter of 2023, the organization is committed to offering youth and adult sports programs that foster physical fitness, teamwork, and leadership skills.

N Zone Sports – Westmoreland is owned and operated by Shane and Kathleen Larkin, a husband-and-wife team who have deep roots in the youth sports industry. Shane, who has over 15 years of experience in the field, has been part of the N Zone brand since its inception in 2013. Originally, N Zone Sports had just 11 locations across the United States. Now, it boasts 95 locations, with Shane personally training many of the franchisees.

The Larkins launched the Greensburg location with a mission to give back to the community and provide an accessible, supportive environment for local youth. “I joined N Zone to make a difference in the lives of young athletes, to bring leadership and structure to youth sports, and to connect with families on a deeper level,” Shane said.

N Zone Sports – Westmoreland provides a variety of programs catering to children and adults. Offerings include flag football, basketball, soccer, and cheerleading, as well as multi-sport introductory classes designed for young athletes just starting out. These programs are available to both competitive athletes and recreational participants.

The business prides itself on being more than just a sports league; it aims to build a sense of community. Shane and Kathleen’s commitment to fostering relationships extends beyond the sports field. They actively partner with other local small businesses to promote local purchasing and support the community.

“We believe in shopping local, supporting our neighbors, and lifting up other small businesses in the area,” Kathleen said. “That’s what makes this community strong, and we want to be part of that.”

What sets N Zone Sports apart is its blend of sports offerings and its unique philanthropic arm. Alongside their sports leagues, the Larkins have created a nonprofit foundation designed to help families who may not otherwise afford to participate in youth sports. Through this foundation, they are working to establish scholarship opportunities for those in need.

“We want every child to have the opportunity to play, regardless of their financial situation,” Shane said. “By offering scholarships, we can make sure that every kid has the chance to get involved in sports and enjoy the benefits that come with it.”

Despite only being in business for three years, N Zone Sports – Westmoreland has already made an impact. Shane and Kathleen, both originally from outside the Western Pennsylvania area, are excited to continue growing their business in their new hometown. The Larkins have a close-knit family, with two boys, Logan (8) and Maddox (2), who are enthusiastic about sports and learning new things. They are also deeply connected to Kathleen’s Peruvian heritage, which they visit often, and the Larkins are looking forward to raising their family in the Murrysville area long term.

“We’ve made it our home over the last four years, and we love everything about it,” Shane said. “The people here have been incredibly welcoming, and we’re excited to contribute to the growth of the area.”

The Larkins are also strengthening their ties to the community by partnering with Stroll Murrysville, a local platform designed to help businesses connect with residents. The Larkins chose to partner with Stroll because they believe in its community-driven mission.

“Stroll’s focus on fostering community really resonated with us,” Kathleen said. “We want to expand our reach in Murrysville and continue to connect with the families here, especially as we grow our programs.”

With a strong sense of purpose and a dedication to both youth sports and community engagement, N Zone Sports – Westmoreland is poised to continue growing its influence in the area. Through its programs and partnerships, the business is helping children and adults alike develop important life skills—both on and off the field.
