Founded in 2023, Not Your Mom's Nail Studio was born from Alex Zimmerman's vision to create a nail salon unlike any other. With a mission to provide quality nail services in a safe, inclusive environment, Alex quickly realized she had outgrown her original space at the Sola Salon Suites in Monroeville. By January 2024, the salon had moved to a larger location, with a grand opening on Mother’s Day weekend. The journey, with her husband by her side as business partner, marked the beginning of something truly special in the local nail care industry.

Not Your Mom's Nail Studio is all about the health and growth of natural nails. Alex offers dry services for more sanitary and effective manicures and pedicures, specializing in GelX nails for those looking to achieve longer, stronger nails. The studio also offers kids' nail services, ensuring that clients of all ages can enjoy their time in the salon.

With a background in customer service and management, Alex has always been drawn to art and creativity. She now applies her artistic talents to nails, calling them “tiny canvases.” In addition, Alex has completed several specialized training courses and certifications, continuously learning and refining her skills.

Her husband, affectionately known as "Mr. Not Your Mom," helps with the daily operations, making sure everything runs smoothly.

Community involvement is at the heart of Not Your Mom's Nail Studio. The business has partnered with nonprofits like Beverly’s Birthdays, Livy’s Libraries, and Play it Forward Pittsburgh. This November, from the 1st to the 30th, the salon will be collecting gently used and new toys to be donated to Play it Forward Pittsburgh.
