PASSION MEETS PURPOSE
From Girl Scouts and robotics to groundbreaking service projects and STEM research, Aashi Bhatt is turning her passion for innovation and leadership into a future at Georgia Tech.

For Aashi Bhatt, success has never been about checking boxes. It has been about creating opportunities for others, building meaningful relationships, and using technology to make a difference. After graduating from Franklin Regional Senior High School, the 18-year-old is preparing for her next chapter at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she will study Computer Science as a Stamps President's Scholar, earning a full-ride scholarship.
Aashi credits much of her success to the support of her family, including her parents and sister, who have encouraged her every step of the way. Throughout high school, she balanced challenging academics with Girl Scouts, robotics, and computational immunology research, experiences that shaped both her career goals and her commitment to serving others.
One of the organizations that has had the greatest impact on her life is Girl Scouts. Having joined in kindergarten, Aashi has spent more than a decade growing alongside a community that emphasizes confidence, leadership, and encouraging young women to support one another.
The highlight of her Girl Scout journey was completing her Gold Award project, Why Shy Away. Along with her team, she established menstrual product stations at Franklin Regional Senior High School and the middle school to ensure students had access to essential period products. The project quickly grew beyond simply providing supplies.
Working alongside Representative Jill Cooper and Representative Arvind Venkat, the team helped raise awareness about menstrual equity while receiving a $5,000 grant from the Shapiro Administration. The funding will support future installations and ongoing maintenance of the stations, helping ensure the project continues to serve students for years to come.
The impact extended even further when Why Shy Away evolved into a sustainable student club. Through the organization, members have introduced coding workshops, self-defense classes, and other programs designed to empower female students and build confidence beyond the classroom.
For Aashi, changing the conversation around menstruation was just as important as providing products.
"Menstruation is still something people often avoid talking about, even though it's completely normal," she said. "Just like toilet paper is available in every restroom, period products should be too."
Outside of Girl Scouts, Aashi has spent years developing her passion for technology through Girls of Steel, an all-girls FIRST Robotics Competition team based at Carnegie Mellon University. She first became involved through the FIRST LEGO League program in fourth grade and has remained an active member ever since.
As Outreach Lead and a member of both the programming and data science teams, she gained valuable technical skills while discovering a passion for computer science that ultimately inspired her decision to pursue the field at Georgia Tech.
Being part of an all-girls robotics team has also reinforced the importance of representation in STEM.
"In a field where women are still underrepresented, it's inspiring to have a team where everyone's voice is valued and where we can compete at a high level while encouraging more girls to see themselves in STEM," she said.
Balancing advanced coursework with extracurricular activities was not always easy. Aashi admits that junior year was one of the most demanding periods of high school, but it also taught her one of the most valuable lessons she plans to carry into college.
She learned that taking breaks is not a sign of weakness but an important part of maintaining both motivation and mental well-being. Whether spending time with friends or sitting down at the piano, stepping away from schoolwork often helped her return with renewed focus.
She also encourages younger students to remember that extracurricular activities should be more than another item on a busy schedule. They should be places where lasting friendships are formed and personal growth happens naturally.
When asked who has had the greatest influence on her life, Aashi did not hesitate to name her mother.
A mechanical engineer herself, Aashi's mother inspired her love of STEM while demonstrating perseverance and determination throughout her career. She supported Aashi during every challenge, especially when obstacles threatened to derail the Gold Award project, always encouraging her to keep moving forward.
Watching her mother earn a master's degree while pregnant with Aashi's sister remains one of the most inspiring examples of resilience she has ever witnessed.
Looking ahead, Aashi is excited to explore the many possibilities within computer science. While she is especially interested in computational biology because of her research experience, she is eager to discover where her education and future opportunities will lead.
As she begins college this fall, Aashi leaves Franklin Regional with more than an impressive list of accomplishments. She leaves behind projects that will continue serving students, organizations that have been strengthened through her leadership, and an example of how combining compassion with innovation can create lasting change.
