Comfort Keepers
Compassionate In-Home Care Built on Family, Faith, and Experience
For 25 years, Comfort Keepers Monroeville has helped seniors and adults throughout the Pittsburgh region remain safe, comfortable, and independent in their own homes. What began in 2001 as one family’s search for compassionate dementia care has grown into a trusted, family-owned business serving communities from Monroeville to South Park, Bridgeville, and Pittsburgh.
The company’s story started when the original owner struggled to find quality in-home care options for his father, who was living with dementia. Rather than settle for inadequate solutions, he opened the first Comfort Keepers franchise in the Pittsburgh area with a mission to provide seniors with dignified, compassionate care at home. That same mission continues today.
Comfort Keepers provides a wide range of in-home care services tailored to each client’s needs. Services include personal care, companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, transportation, medication reminders, respite care, and specialized support for individuals living with dementia or chronic conditions. Their caregivers focus not only on physical assistance but also on emotional and mental well-being through the company’s Interactive Caregiving™ approach, which encourages seniors to stay engaged and active in daily life.
At the heart of the organization is Dana Serrapere, whose personal experiences have deeply shaped her understanding of caregiving and family support. Before joining Comfort Keepers, Dana spent the early part of her career at the University of Pittsburgh, where she developed strong organizational and professional skills. However, it was her role as a caregiver for multiple family members that ultimately prepared her most for the work she does today.
Over a nine-year period, Dana became the healthcare navigator and power of attorney for her sister Dani during her battle with melanoma, followed by similar responsibilities for both of her parents as they faced lung cancer and multiple myeloma. Countless hours spent in hospitals, emergency rooms, and cancer centers taught her firsthand what overwhelmed families experience while trying to balance caregiving, work, marriage, and parenting.
Those difficult experiences gave Dana a profound sense of empathy and compassion that now guides her work with families seeking care for loved ones. She understands the stress, uncertainty, and emotional weight many families carry when they first call Comfort Keepers for help.
“I know what it’s like to try so hard to make everything work,” she says. “That personal experience allows me to truly meet families where they are and help them navigate difficult situations with care and understanding.”
Dana has also completed extensive dementia training and earned her credential as a Certified Dementia Practitioner through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners. Her specialized knowledge allows Comfort Keepers to create highly personalized care plans for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of cognitive decline.
Today, Comfort Keepers employs approximately 270 team members, including 250 caregivers and 20 office staff. Despite its growth, the company continues to operate with the warmth and personal touch of a family-owned business.
“What makes us different is that we build real relationships with our clients and their families,” Dana explains. “We are not just providing care. We are providing support, comfort, and peace of mind.”
The company’s reputation is built on dependable service, compassion, and a commitment to helping seniors maintain dignity and independence while remaining in familiar surroundings.
Family remains central to Dana’s life and values. She and her husband, Guy, have been married for many years and are proud parents of two daughters, Gianna and Gabriella. Guy recently celebrated his 20th year working at the University of Pittsburgh. Gianna graduated from Pitt in 2024 with a degree in Health Care Management and now works for a medical equipment company. Gabriella recently graduated from high school and will also attend Pitt this fall to pursue Health Care Management.
Comfort Keepers also values its connection to the local community, which is why the company partners with Stroll Murrysville. Dana says the publication allows them to connect with local families in a trusted, community-focused environment while sharing resources that help seniors and their loved ones plan for care, independence, and quality of life.
