Get to Know Marcia Murphy

A Life of Service and Joy

How old are you? 85

Can you share a memorable experience or story from your life?

Marcia has always had a love for travel, and some of her most cherished memories come from the places she’s explored. She traveled internationally to China and Taiwan, experiences that broadened her perspective and deepened her appreciation for different cultures. Closer to home, Marcia spent many winters in Sarasota, Florida, where she enjoyed the sunshine, the beach, and the calming rhythm of coastal life. Whether across the globe or by the ocean, travel has played a meaningful role in Marcia’s life and memories.

Are there any particular accomplishments or achievements that you are proud of?
After graduating from Manual in 1958, Marcia continued her education at the University of Louisville, where she was a proud member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. In 1962, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology.  That summer, she took a position working in the lab at Kosair Children’s Hospital on Eastern Parkway.

Are there any life lessons or values that you would like to pass on to future generations?
Marcia believes that one of life’s greatest gifts is the friendships that last over time. As she often reflects, you meet many people throughout your life, but only a few walk beside you for decades. Those friendships aren’t always loud or perfect; they are steady, supportive, and grow alongside you through life’s changes. Marcia values these enduring relationships and sees them as one of the most meaningful lessons to pass on to future generations.

How have your interests or hobbies evolved over the years? Are there any new activities you have taken up recently?
Throughout her life, Marcia’s interests have been centered around helping others, especially children. She spent many years volunteering in her community, serving on a foster care review board and participating in a refugee ministry through her church. Supporting families and caring for children has always been close to her heart. Over the years, while the ways she gives back have evolved, Marcia’s passion for compassion, service, and connection with others has remained a constant part of who she is.

Is there anything else that you would like to share?

She has a gift for staying positive, offering kind and sweet words to everyone she meets.
