The rolling greens of Sherwood Country Club were filled with energy, generosity, and community spirit on May 19, 2025, as Sherwood Cares hosted its highly anticipated annual Golf Classic. Held on the Club’s championship Jack Nicklaus signature course, the sold-out event raised more than $215,000 to support the foundation’s mission of uplifting children and families within a 25-mile drive.
As the charitable arm of Sherwood Country Club, Sherwood Cares has long been a champion of community-focused philanthropy. With the success of this year’s tournament, the foundation has now granted $7.7 million to 64 nonprofit organizations addressing critical needs in education, healthcare, nutrition, and safety.
“We deeply appreciate the exceptional generosity of our members, which enables us to continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need within our community,” said George Carney, Founder and Board President of Sherwood Cares. “We remain committed to supporting programs that strengthen and uplift local families.”
The Golf Classic is one of two signature fundraising events the foundation organizes annually. This year’s tournament not only brought in impressive financial support but also strengthened community bonds. Players enjoyed a memorable day complete with a Sherwood Pro Shop shopping spree, gourmet food options including poke bowls, smash burgers, and ice cream, and wellness services like on-course stretching and massages provided by Sports IQ.
A standout feature of the day was the wide array of prizes. Hole-in-one challenges featured luxurious rewards including a Bentley lease from Bentley Westlake and high-end Breitling timepieces from Polacheck’s Jewelers. The Opportunity Board featured prizes valued at more than $30,000, creating an exciting atmosphere throughout the course.
Longtime Presenting Sponsor, Polacheck’s Jewelers, once again lent their enthusiastic support. “Monday was an incredible day, filled with community spirit and shared purpose,” said Brent Polacheck, President of Polacheck’s Jewelers. “The Sherwood Cares team organized an outstanding event, and it was uplifting to reconnect with so many familiar faces, all genuinely enthusiastic about supporting such a meaningful cause.”
Major sponsors also included AmeriHome Mortgage, BG Law, Bentley Westlake, On Track Performance, WDC Kitchen & Bath Center, and the Tesoriero and Weinstein families, all of whom share a deep commitment to giving back locally.
Looking ahead, Sherwood Cares is preparing for its next major fundraising event, the annual gala, themed Havana Nights set for September 21, 2025. Sponsorship opportunities for the gala are still available, and community members are encouraged to get involved.
