Where did you get your pets and why?
Buck joined our family in the most unexpected and magical way. I was road-tripping from Virginia to Arizona in 2021 when I spotted him wandering alone through an abandoned neighborhood in Oklahoma. He looked malnourished and lost, but even in that state, he had this gentle spirit about him. I knew I couldn’t just drive away. After searching for an owner with no luck, I made the best detour of my life and Buck’s been by my side ever since.

Boonie came along a bit later, during a bittersweet time. We had just lost our two senior dogs, and I was volunteering at a local shelter when I met this fluffy little firecracker. Something about him just said, “Take me home!” I couldn’t resist. I brought him home to meet Buck, and the two instantly bonded. They’ve been inseparable ever since true soul brothers.

Is there a story behind their names?
Buck got his name after we settled into a small Arizona town called Buckeye. The name just stuck strong, sweet, and fitting for his adventurous spirit.

Boonie, on the other hand, looked like a tiny ball of energy ready to burst with cuteness. “Boonie” popped into my head, and it suited him perfectly quirky, lovable, and just a little wild.

Any special talents or quirks?
Buck is an athlete through and through. I kid you not he can outrun me while I’m on a bike! He’s a rocket in dog form.

Boonie? Let’s just say he has a “special” skill he takes my socks off for me. It’s very helpful until he decides to rip them apart. We’re still in training on that last part!

What do you love most about them?
They’re the emotional support team we never knew we needed. Whenever someone in the house is sad or stressed, they just know. Buck and Boonie will be there in a heartbeat, licking faces, doing silly things, or just cuddling close. They’ve taught us the true meaning of unconditional love.

Any funny stories?
Oh, where do I start? Buck has recently discovered a passion for fly-hunting. He’ll chase a single fly around the house relentlessly until he catches it mid-air. We call him our “fly ninja.”

As for Boonie, he’s officially a ladies’ man. One beach day, he vanished into thin air. I was panicking, thinking the worst. Turns out, he had strolled half a mile down the beach just to soak up the love and attention of a group of girls who were petting him like royalty. He was living his best life. Bing Bang Boom!

Are they spoiled?
Spoiled? No. Deserved? Absolutely. Everything they get treats, toys, comfy beds they’ve earned tenfold with the love and joy they bring into our lives.

Anything else we should know?
Despite Buck being a pitbull mix, he’s one of the gentlest, most affectionate dogs I’ve ever known. He truly wants to be everyone’s friend. Both Buck and Boonie have not only brought us comfort and laughs, but they’ve shown our family how beautiful second chances and a whole lot of dog kisses can be.
