Advancing programs that nurture, protect, and empower children and families
The energy was electric at Sherwood Country Club as more than 350 guests gathered for Havana Nights, the annual Sherwood Cares Gala. The sold-out event transported attendees to the vibrant spirit of Cuba—complete with lively music, Cuban-inspired cuisine, and a shared purpose: to make a lasting difference in the lives of local children and families.
The evening raised an impressive $1.5 million in net proceeds, marking another record-breaking year for Sherwood Cares, the charitable foundation of Sherwood Country Club. These funds will enable the foundation to continue its mission of supporting local nonprofits within a 25-mile drive of the Club. These are organizations that address the educational, medical, nutrition, and safety needs of children and families.
Guests enjoyed an unforgettable program emceed by comedian Heather McDonald, whose signature humor set a joyful tone for the evening. The lively silent and live auctions featured extraordinary travel packages, luxury items, and one-of-a-kind experiences. A highlight of the night was the Opportunity Board, featuring an exclusive $25,000 gift certificate from Polacheck’s Jewelers.
Mizel Estate Wines provided a trio of Mizel’s luxury wines with dinner and cocktail hour– 2019 First Impression Bordeaux Blend, 2020 Easy to Please Grenache and 2017 Smooth Touch Syrah.
Sherwood Cares Founder and Board President George Carney expressed heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of generosity, saying, “We are deeply grateful to our members, sponsors, and community partners whose spirit of giving continues to transform lives. The success of Havana Nights reflects the best of Sherwood—our compassion, connection, and commitment to service.”
Adding to the evening’s heartfelt impact, Cindi Gortner, Sherwood Cares Grants Committee Member, spoke about the foundation’s purpose and progress. “Each grant we award represents a ripple effect of hope,” she said. “Together, we are helping ensure that local children have access to opportunities, safety, and care that can change the trajectory of their lives.”
The success of Havana Nights was made possible through the dedication of the Gala Committee, chaired by Dina Furash, and the generosity of sponsors including Polacheck’s Jewelers, ,POMS Insurance, The Oaks Mall, Amerihome Mortgage, and Warehouse Discount Center, and Mizel Estate Wines.
Since its inception in 2013, Sherwood Cares has granted more than $8.3 million to 65 local nonprofits, building a legacy of compassion and community impact.
