Turning Up the Volume on Community Impact
From the airwaves to local outreach, EMG is making a difference across East Texas, one connection at a time.
For over four decades, the airwaves in Tyler have carried a consistent message of hope. What began in 1981 when a local group applied for a non-commercial FCC license has grown into Encouragement Media Group (EMG), a powerhouse of Christian broadcasting and community impact. On October 29, 1983, 89.5 KVNE went live with a 19-hour broadcast day and a 50,000-watt reach. Today, the station broadcasts 24 hours a day at 100,000 watts, reaching over 176,000 listeners each month as the number-one station in East Texas.
The mission of EMG and KVNE is clear and unwavering: "To glorify God by encouraging people, connecting our community, and pointing people to Jesus Christ." This vision, summarized by the phrase, "Time is short. People need Jesus," drives every program and partnership the group undertakes. This commitment has not gone unnoticed; the staff and programming have earned 11 "Station of the Year" awards from the Christian Music Broadcasters and National Religious Broadcasters.
EMG is much more than a collection of radio frequencies. Through their "Ministry Impact" initiative, they serve as a megaphone for local initiatives. Each month, the group partners with a different organization to make a tangible difference. In 2026, these efforts include a diaper drive for local pregnancy resource centers in April, collecting shoes for underprivileged children in July, and a coat drive with PATH in October. "We believe in the power of community and the strength that comes from working together," the organization notes.
The growth of the ministry has expanded significantly in recent years, particularly through their Spanish-language outreach. Fuzión, "The Voice of Harmony," launched in January 2020 to reach the Spanish-speaking community with Christ-centered music in their "heart language." In the last two years alone, the signal has expanded into Lufkin, Nacogdoches, Shreveport, and Albuquerque. In early 2026, doors opened for further reach into Las Vegas and Southern California, meeting what the ministry describes as an extraordinary need.
Beyond the music, EMG offers diverse formats to help listeners dive deeper into their faith. This includes Lift Worship, which transitioned to a focus on praise in 2020, and The Well, a Bible teaching station featuring respected pastors. For Spanish speakers, Modo Vida provides solid discipleship and teaching.
Whether through a 30-day challenge in January or blessing local families during the "Christmas Encouragement" in December, EMG remains dedicated to being the hands and feet of Jesus. By connecting the Oak Creek neighborhood and the broader East Texas region to vital local ministries, they ensure that the message of encouragement continues to touch minds, hearts, and souls far beyond East Texas and far beyond the radio.
