With roots in the greater Tyler area as deep as the 1850s, Lesley Fagg continues as a homegrown bright spot in the community with Bonejour Jax. More than a pet supply store, Bonejour Jax is committed to delivering products designed to delight pets and pet owners alike. There’s no shortage of dog and cat lovers in the Tyler area, and in recognizing this love, Lesley started Bonejour Jax. This tradition of love continues with every customer, dog, cat or otherwise, who enters her store.

 

The youngest of four, Lesley lived in Tyler off and on throughout her life; in the “off,” she spent time in Germany and England, where she still has friends and family. After graduating from The University of Texas at Tyler, Lesley moved to Houston for over twenty years. She moved back to Tyler in 2019 to take care of her elderly parents, both of whom have now passed on. Although the circumstances of her return weren’t ideal, she and the Bonejour Jax storefront now call Tyler home.

 

The origins of Bonejour Jax are bittersweet. While living in Houston in 2015, Lesley lost a beloved pet unexpectedly, and was heartbroken. She was connected to the Tyler SPCA through a friend, and discovered Jackson, a rescue off the streets of Jacksonville, Texas who was available for adoption. Lesley felt an immediate connection with this malnourished and vulnerable dog. Despite living in Houston, her work from home status and ability to give Jackson the TLC he needed, Lesley was approved to adopt Jax. The food Lesley needed to feed Jackson was unavailable in Tyler, resulting in her having to stock up on visits to Houston and Dallas. Independent retailers are a great source of information on nutrition and often carry products you can’t find in big box, multi-pet stores. “Independent retailers are common in larger cities,” Lesley says. “I thought, ‘I can't be the only person in the Tyler area struggling with this issue.’” With little Jax in mind, Lesley decided to solve her own problem, and open Bonejour Jax, the only independent pet retailer in the Tyler area.

 

Bonejour Jax specializes in dog and cat food, nutritional supplements, treats, collars, harnesses, and toys. Lesley says, “Everything we carry has been personally selected by myself instead of some far away corporate office, and are brands I would trust feeding Jax.” For instance, Lesley feeds Jax a gently cooked formula that’s made close to home in Sulphur Springs. While easily available in the Dallas and Houston markets, you can only get it locally at Bonejour Jax. “We're small and when you walk in, we will greet you and help you find what you need,” says Lesley. “We're here to help you navigate the different food choices available or find the right fit in a harness.   We understand that your pet is a member of the family and we genuinely care about their welfare.” Whether you’re stocking up on nutritious food or just dropping by to say hi with your dog, you’ll be greeted with a smiling face.

 

The storefront hasn’t been open long, but people are slowly discovering what a difference it is to shop at Bonejour Jax as opposed to a big-box, self-service pet supply store. Lesley says she’s excited to grow and serve the Tyler area. With the customer (both human and non) at the center of business, loyalty and frequent-buyer programs have been implemented to help you save. “We will also be launching a monthly birthday club and hosting events at the store,” says Lesley. Shopping at Bonejour Jax offers boutique customer-service experiences at competitive prices; it’s the best of both worlds.
