A Gentleman Named Kermit

Fourteen years later, this tuxedo-clad Boston Terrier is still faithfully by Ivy’s side—one walk, nap, and adventure at a time.

Meet Kermit McMillin, sometimes called “The Worm,” the fourteen-year-old Boston Terrier, a breed known as the “American Gentleman” for their tuxedo-patterned coat and polite manner. Kermit joined the McMillan family when Ivy’s mom gifted Kermit to her for Ivy’s twenty-first birthday. “He has been with me for my entire adult life,” Ivy says. “He has been around since before my husband.”

Ivy has made many great memories with Kermit, who got his name after the frog, as they both share a quirky personality. One of her favorite memories with Kermit was when she and her mom were buying Kermit in Canton. “My mom sweetly asked the seller if there was anything special about him, who gruffly replied, ‘Nope!,’” Ivy says. “Boy, was he wrong! Kermit has been an incredible companion for the past fourteen years.”

Ivy says in his youth, Kermit could roll over both ways, but he now prefers a more dignified nod when you ask him to roll. Still, he’s got tricks up his sleeve. He likes to burrow all the way to the bottom of any blanket structure he can find, and is able to stay there for hours. Ivy says she’s always wondered how he breathes in there, but somehow Kermit finds a way. Even though he’s now mature, Kermit still destroys any toy he can get his hands on, chewing them up quicker than he’ll gobble a Whataburger French fry.

For Kermit’s perfect day, he might enjoy something like this: start off at the beach, where he could swim and dig, then pick up Dutch Bros on the way home for a pup cup, then cap it all off in the neighborhood with a one mile walk around the Salado area. Of course, he’d want to spend every minute of that day with Ivy. They’ve been together fourteen years, and you’re certainly not going to see them apart now.
