Steeped in Joy: Brooke Turns Two

Where pinkies drop, smiles rise, and everything is sweet as sugar.

Brooke Ashley is two years old, and has lived in Oak Creek her whole life. Brooke loves being across the street from her best friend, Ayla, and having a big yard where she can play. Brooke loves animals, playing with dolls, watching Ms. Rachel, reading books, dressing up, and most of all, tea parties.

When Brooke turned two at the end of November she celebrated with a tea party filled with close friends and family, an abundance of fresh flowers, balloons, fun accessories, delicious pastries from her favorite bakery, Laurel and Pearl, and of course, tea! “Brooke loved every minute of it and took delight in the fun hats, costume jewelry, and polite conversations about the weather and her favorite colors,” says Brooke’s mom and dad, Michala and Brett. “She had so much fun serving her friends their tea and, of course, added way too much milk and sugar to the teacups.”

Brooke loves everyone she meets, but her very best friends are Adalyn and Ayla. Adalyn is the younger sister of Brooke’s older brother Ben’s best friend, and Ayla, as we mentioned earlier, lives right across the street. Ayla gifted Brooke a tea party set last year for Brooke’s first birthday, which kicked off Brooke’s love of tea parties. Adalyn knows what it’s like to have sport-obsessed older brothers, so she and Brooke have a nice time “playing dolls, hosting tea parties, and not playing or watching sports.”

Brooke attends Stepping Stone School and loves it. At school, Brooke is always learning new things, socializing, and exploring music and art. Her teachers there are Brooke’s babysitters outside of school, and they are adored by the Ashleys.

One of the Ashley’s favorite family traditions is their nightly book reading with Brooke. “Brooke has always loved being read to and could easily listen to 10–15 books a night before bed and still ask for more,” Michala and Brett say. “Her current favorite books are The Pout-Pout Fish, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, and Is Your Mama a Llama?” It’s a tradition, filled with theatrics, where everyone “fights” over who gets to read Brooke her bedtime books each night. Recently, she has only wanted her big brother Ben to read to her and tuck her in, which is just adorable to watch.

Brooke loves all animals, but especially the family cat, Theodore. She cannot walk through the house without giving him her "sweet kitty gentle pat-pats,” according to the Ashleys. “Unfortunately, a two-year-old’s version of “gentle” is very different from a fourteen-year-old cat’s version, but thankfully Theodore adores her and puts up with all of it willingly.”

For Brooke Ashley, it’s all about the joy of love and friendship. Whether it’s sipping tea with her best friends, learning at school, reading bedtime books with family, or loving on her sweet cat, Brooke is happy to explore her world and greet everyone, person and animal, with a smile. So put your pinkies down, raise your tea cups, and cheers to Brooke Ashley!
