Golden Retrievers hold a special place in the hearts of families across America, and it is easy to see why. With their gentle personalities, loyal spirits, and trademark golden coats, they have long been admired as the perfect blend of companionship and charm. Originally bred in Scotland in the late 1800s as skilled hunting dogs, Goldens quickly proved themselves to be much more than working partners. They became devoted family members who thrive on connection, affection, and being right in the middle of the action.

Over the decades, the breed’s reputation for intelligence and patience helped catapult Golden Retrievers to the top of the nation’s list of beloved pets. Their talent goes far beyond fetching tennis balls. Goldens excel as therapy dogs, service animals, and emotional support companions due to their sensitivity and eagerness to please. They have an uncanny ability to read human emotions, offering comfort when it is needed most and joy when it is time to play. This exceptional versatility is a major reason they consistently rank as one of America’s favorite breeds.

Today, Golden Retrievers are celebrated not just for their beauty and skill but for the way they bring people together. In neighborhoods like Oak Pointe, they symbolize warmth, community, and unconditional love. It is no surprise that this year’s Stroll Oak Pointe Precious Pet winners are two Goldens who have captured the hearts of residents with their big smiles and even bigger personalities. Their story is a reminder of why the Golden Retriever remains America’s most cherished companion and why Oak Pointe is especially proud to celebrate them.

Our Precious Pet Contest winners, Murphy and Maui, melted our hearts with their golden smiles, playful spirits, and undeniable charm. These two beautiful Golden Retrievers are beloved members of the Finneran family, bringing warmth, laughter, and love to everyone around them.

Michelle and Kevin Finneran have called Oak Pointe home for a year and a half, and their house is always full of furry affection. The couple has always had dogs, from their own childhoods through raising their kids, and now that their children are grown and busy with their own lives, Murphy and Maui have become their “babies.” Their grandchildren adore spending time with them too, making the dogs an even bigger part of family life.

Both Murphy and Maui came from friends and family who bred their Goldens, and while they share the same breed, they each have their own unique personality. Murphy is the laid-back cuddle bug, always ready to snuggle, splash in the water, or simply tag along wherever his humans go. Maui, on the other hand, is the spirited protector, independent, playful, and always ready for a game of fetch or to chase a squirrel across the yard.

Their favorite place to unwind? The Finnerans’ lake house up north, where Murphy and Maui can swim, enjoy boat rides, and relax by a warm bonfire after a day of outdoor fun.

For Michelle and Kevin, life just wouldn’t be complete without their loyal companions. As Michelle beautifully says, “Life is better when you share yours with man’s best friend.”
