Laughs, Music, and Muumuus: Highlights from the Mrs. Roper Romp
Brighton was awash in color, laughter, and nostalgia on August 13th as the community came together for the second annual Mrs. Roper Romp. The celebration began at Bourbons on Main Street, moved on to Brighton Bar & Grill, and wrapped up grandly at the Mill Pond Amphitheater during the Wednesday night concert.
For one unforgettable evening, the town was filled with flowing caftans, oversized jewelry, and plenty of red wigs—each a tribute to the iconic Mrs. Helen Roper from the hit 1970s sitcom Three’s Company. Played by Audra Lindley, Mrs. Roper became a television legend thanks to her humor, wit, and flamboyant wardrobe. Her bold muumuus and bohemian style have made her a pop culture icon, inspiring “Roper Romps” across the country.
This year’s Brighton romp captured that same spirit. Groups of friends strolled from venue to venue, sipping cocktails, posing for photos, and turning heads everywhere they went. The sight of dozens of Mrs. Ropers gathered together brought smiles to onlookers and plenty of good-natured conversation. By the time the crowd reached the Amp for the Wednesday concert, the energy was undeniable—a sea of orange, pink, and floral patterns dancing and laughing along with the music.
The Mrs. Roper Romp wasn’t just about the costumes, though. It was about community—neighbors coming together, letting loose, and sharing in something delightfully different. The joy was infectious, and the memories will surely last until the next romp.
So, if you missed it, don’t worry. Keep an eye open for next year’s romp—all you’ll need is a muumuu and a red wig to join in the fun!
