In this review issue, we look back at our 2024 athletes of all ages. We also welcome our new Athlete of the Month sponsor, Drs. Ken Murkowski and Dr. Matt Rayis with Pro-Active Chiropractic & Wellness. They're just around the corner and offer a practice "where active people come to stay active." If you see them around town or at the clubhouse, pease be sure and thank them for sponsoring this page that highlights our Oakhurst athletes month after month.

FEBRUARY 2024
Madelyn Krappmann and Addison Pearce celebrated a sensational and successful 2023 high school volleyball season with their Clarkston Everest Collegiate girls' Varsity Volleyball team. Leading the team through many firsts in her first year as head coach at Everest Collegiate was Danielle Walker. Madelyn and Addison both contributed kills and digs to win and look forward to  winning again!

MARCH 2024
Stewart siblings shared the spotlight in March. Jaylynn was a 6th grader at Sashabaw Middle School and played basketball for Michigan Mystics, a travel team. She also played soccer and flag football with her basketball teammates. Her brother, John was a 9th grader at Clarkston Middle School and played football, basketball and ran track. Watching football together with his Dad inspired John to play football.

APRIL 2024
We celebrated CHS senior golfer Alexandria LeCureux in April who has been playing golf for most of her life, inspired by her Dad. She shared one of her proudest golf moments when she placed second overall at regionals in her junior year and shot 74 - a personal best. Golf taught her to trust herself. Alexandria was looking forward to playing golf in college at Gannon University.

MAY 2024
Colton Bisbee fell in love with the game of golf when he was 3 years old. Colton is a member of Warwicks Junior golf team, was the Fall Player of the Year for the Meijer Callaway Tour and played on a regional team known as The Flintstones. It was Colton's 10 foot putt that clinched the 13U State Championships. Colton's goal is "to play in the Ryder Cup and become a professional golfer."

JUNE 2024
With so many graduates featured in June, resident junior writer Mila Crockett (a dancer herself) interviewed her friend, Noah Taylor, a senior at Everest High School & Academy. She asked him about being on the varsity football team and he said. "I learned that to be a good team, cooperation and encouraging improvement towards your teammates is key. Challenging your teammates will make both of you better players, resulting in a better team."

JULY 2024
Garrett Thompson has lived here since he was 6 years old and he's been playing basketball sine he was in 4th grade and lacrosse since he was in 6th grade. Featured in his junior year at Clarkston High School, Garrett had great advice for future players: "Practice at game speed and give 100%!" This year he will be on the varsity lacrosse team and has yet to decide whether or not he will play sports in college.

AUGUST 2024
Lila Shore was a busy 8 year old in 2024. Like many young athletes, she played more than one sport. Golf, tennis, volleyball, gymnastics, and dance. Dance is her favorite. Advice she would give to someone looking to get into dance: "It's a lot of fun but it's also a lot of work. I spend many evenings at the studio practicing and many weekends a year dancing at competitions. I have to give up other activities to focus on my dance."

SEPTEMBER 2024
In September, we had brothers Braeden, Elliot and Colin all shared their love for sports and the spotlight for Athlete of the Month. As a member of the Clarkston Ski Team, Braeden told us how much he enjoys racing. Elliot would choose baseball over all other sports and plans to play as long as he can. Colin has grown up with his two older brothers and like them, plays many sports, but shared his time on Cash Cows, a local travel lacrosse team where he plays two positions: attack and defense.

OCTOBER 2024
Tyler Kitson has already begun his t-ball career and soon will begin learning ninja moves. You can never be too young to play sports. We are blessed in this neighborhood to have so many parents involved in helping our young athletes fall in love with life skills that come from being part of a team, battling hours of practice and most of all, becoming a "good sport." Thanks to Brad and all the other moms and dads who help make that happen.

NOVEMBER 2024
Lucian Remick started playing soccer when he was 2 years old. He shared playing competitive travel soccer for Vardar MLS as the right back, which includes marking and tracking the wingers on the opposing team, intercepting passes, and providing cover for the center backs on my team. Lucian reminded us all how important it is to stay healthy and eat good food so we can live a good life. He wants to be involved in soccer no matter how far he can go.

DECEMBER 2024
Denis Wiecorek is our oldest athlete from 2024. An alpine ski patroller who watches over skiers at Pine Knob Ski Resort. He skied when he was younger and returned after retiring. His advice is simple: Take lessons. He also says "too many people come out with little, or no experience and they are a hazard to themselves and others around them. Understand the responsibility code for skiers and snowboarders. The responsibility code is posted at most ski resorts, or you can ask a patroller."
