PAUL AND COLLEEN STURR

This month we feature neighbors Paul and Colleen who many of you already know. I met them as part of a Euchre Club here in the neighborhood. If you asked me to describe the two in a few words, I would say they are best friends who love life together. Don't take my word for it, theirs are better!

SAY HELLO
Paul (Jr) and Colleen met at Bishop Foley High School in 1981 but they didn't start dating until they reconnected after high school. If you know them, the rest is history! If you don't, everyone should have neighbors like Paul and Colleen. Together they naturally compliment one another in so many ways. Not sure if they complete one another's sentences, but maybe! I rarely see them apart. I hope you get the chance to say hello and become friends.

THE STARTING LINE
After graduating from Bishop Foley, Paul went to Alma College on a baseball scholarship as a catcher. He studied Businesss until he  paused his education halfway through to come home and help with a family issue. He eventually returned, graduated and began working in the family business. Colleen graduated from Central Michigan University with a BS in Health Education and an MA in Public Health.

FAMILY LIFE WELL LIVED
Together they raised their sons, Paul III and Andrew, in Rochester where they lived for 21 years. In 2022, they moved to Oakhurst. A couple of years before moving in, they became golf members and loved everything about Oakhurst - the golf, the club, and yes, the friendships. Today, they live along the golf course with their son Andrew who works for United Wholesale Mortgage. Paul III and his wife Elyse, remain in Rochester and are proud parents of Paul and Colleen's first grandson, Paul IV who will soon celebrate his first birthday. Paul III is a Manager for Accenture Security and Elyse is a Producer at Jackson Dawson.

A LIFE OF GIVING. BACK
After selling their IT consulting business to Accenture, Paul continued working for Accenture as a Global Managing Director until 2024. Today he is currently working on a new start up. Colleen retired almost 8 years ago from Healthcare in her final role as a Director for 16 Primary Care Ambulatory Offices. She taught Health Education Methodology at the University of Michigan for 7 years. She is now a substitute teacher at Holy Family Regional School in Rochester Hills and best of all, she watches her grandson Paul IV once a week.

JACK AND STELLA
You may recognize their English Springer Spaniels bred at Holler Springers in Battlecreek. They were featured in Stroll Oakhurst's November 2024 issue on the Pawsitive Pet page, and again in December 2025 with all other Oakhurst pups celebrating the holidays. Siblings, Jack is now 4 and Stella is 2. You have probably seen them playing in the backyard while golfing on the 8th green. They are friendly, love to play and never turn down a good treat!

SPORTS FANS AND TRAVELS
Like so many of you, these two are die-hard University of Michigan Football fans and this year marks their 30th year as season ticket holders. Paul and Colleen make it to about 10 Detroit Tiger baseball games every year too! Everyone in the Sturr family is an avid golfer and last year Paul and Colleen went to Ireland for the Open at Royal Portrush. Both Paul and Colleen enjoy their golf league play - even though Paul participates in more tournaments. Colleen has been nursing a few injuries of late so now that she rehabilitated, watch out ladies! Kidding aside, she looks forward to playing more golf. Count them in for Nine & Dines and sign them up for winter Trivia nights!!!

TRAVEL
That brings up something else they love - maybe more than football. Paul and Colleen love to travel together and Vegas is easily their “go to” spot because they tell me they usually travel to Vegas 4-5 times a year. They love the atmosphere: the food, the shows, the gambling. It doesn't hurt that it's fun to dress up in Vegas too! Wisconsin is also a common destination now that their good friends recently moved there.

But, one of their recent trips to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail gave them true appreciation for Bourbon and the process that goes into distilling Bourbon! Did you know there are 25 distilleries, bourbon bars and restaurants along the way? Maybe we can get Paul and Colleen to guide a group of us back down there. How much fun would that be!

REASONS TO GATHER
Family Christmas is at the Sturrs. They continue to host Christmas and have been for the last 25 years. We love having our immediate and extended family over for the holidays and some years we can host up to 60 people!!! Their home is beautifully decorated and very welcoming.

Even though Paul and Colleen have lived in Oakhurst for nearly 4 years, they are still discovering new things about the surrounding area. They love many of the same dining spots as you and I do - The Fed Community, Rudy's Prime Steak, 15th Street Tavern and Victoria's in Oxford - where they have wonderful Gin and Bourbon Tastings!

COMMUNITY SPIRIT
While they love being involved here at the club and in the neighborhood, Paul and Colleen continue to participate and support events they have been connected with for so many years in the Rochester area. Colleen has been very involved with the Rochester Junior Women’s Club (RJWC) for 8 years and acted as President for two years. RJWC is a charity organization that has been around for 60 years with various charity events that both Colleen and Paul actively participate in, bringing their positive energy and smiles wherever they go.

FAVORITE OAKHURST MEMORY
Because there are so many reasons why Paul and Colleen love living in Oakhurst, when asked, they couldn't name just one. They do love the sense of community in the neighborhood and appreciate the camaraderie and thoughtfulness everyone shares, looking out for one another. Oakhurst is a friendly place to live because people who live here really do want to know their neighbors.
