Sweethearts, Travels, and Texas Roots
The Oles Family
For Mike and Judy Oles, life has been a journey defined by love, family, faith, and a spirit of adventure — a story that began decades ago and continues to grow in the Oakmont neighborhood they’ve called home since 2015.
Their story started in Abilene, Texas, when both of their families happened to move there the very same year. Mike and Judy met during their senior year at Abilene High School, began dating, and soon became high school sweethearts — a relationship that has stood the test of time.
Mike, a self-described military brat, spent parts of his childhood living both overseas and across the United States, with many formative years in Laredo, Texas. Judy grew up in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, before her family relocated to Texas.
Education and hard work have been central themes in their lives. Mike attended Texas Tech University and is now the CEO and Owner of Brown McKee, Inc., an engineering and construction company. Judy earned her bachelor’s degree from Hardin-Simmons University and a master’s degree from Wayland Baptist University. She spent many years teaching business in higher education and even authored and self-published office technology textbooks used by business, community, and junior colleges.
Family remains at the heart of everything they do. Their sons have built successful lives of their own: Ryan and his wife, Lauren, live in Austin, where Ryan works as a computer programmer and Lauren is a graphic designer. Russ and his wife, Veronica, live in Dallas, where Russ serves as a corporate bank vice president and Veronica works as a fashion merchandiser buyer. Both sons are proud to have attended Texas Tech.
And then there’s Caleb — their 26-month-old grandson — who Mike and Judy describe as the light of their world.
The Oles family shares many traditions, including cheering on Texas Tech sports, staying active in their church, and taking an annual family ski trip. They also share a deep love for travel. Their adventures have taken them to Israel and the Holy Land, Iceland to see glaciers and the Northern Lights, Paris and Normandy, and most recently on a once-in-a-lifetime family journey to Istanbul, the Greek Islands, Athens, and Egypt — with Caleb along for the trip, proving to be an exceptional little traveler.
Closer to home, Mike enjoys working in the backyard each spring and is an active member of a fly fishing club, with trips planned throughout the year — including an upcoming adventure to Costa Rica with his brothers. Judy enjoys spending time on girls’ trips with her sister and cousins and loves attending concerts and plays, especially performances at the Buddy Holly venue.
When it comes to relaxing, the couple enjoys dining out with friends and family at local favorites and spending time with neighbors. One of their favorite things about Oakmont is the strong sense of community.
“We love Oakmont — especially our amazing neighbors next door and behind us,” they share.
Active in their church and always looking for ways to stay connected, Mike and Judy also enjoy reading STROLL to learn more about the people who make their neighborhood special.
For anyone new to the area, their message is simple: It’s a great place to live.
With a lifetime of shared history, a growing family, and many more adventures ahead, Mike and Judy Oles continue to make the most of every season — together.
