From Smiles to Petals: Meet the Hudsons, Oakmont’s Dentist and Flower Taxi Dreamers

Jay and Teri Hudson, along with their four accomplished children and two adorable miniature Aussies, are thrilled to call the Oakmont neighborhood home. Having moved to Lubbock in June of 2024, the Hudsons bring a vibrant energy, a passion for community, and a love for all things Texas Tech.

Family Members and Life Milestones
Jay and Teri’s children are all grown but remain a close-knit part of the family’s story:
  • Kate (18): A freshman at Texas Tech University, pursuing a degree in Business/Marketing, and an active member of Chi Omega.
  • Hayden (20): A senior at Texas Lutheran University, preparing to begin law school in Fall 2025.
  • Jacob (22): A senior Mechanical Engineering major at Texas Tech University, currently interning with Kiewit.
  • Hunter (24): A University of North Texas graduate, now working in the film industry with credits on projects like Special Ops: Lioness and Yellowstone.
The family also includes two lovable miniature Aussies: Raider, a 6-year-old full of personality, and Chief, an energetic 10-month-old puppy.

A New Business Adventure: The Flower Taxi
Teri and Kate are embarking on an exciting new business venture together, launching The Flower Taxi, a mobile flower shop designed to bring fresh, beautiful blooms directly to the community. With Teri’s entrepreneurial background as a former gym owner and Kate’s expertise in marketing, this mother-daughter duo is combining their talents to create a unique and joyful experience for Lubbock residents. The Flower Taxi aims to make flower shopping convenient and fun, whether it’s for a special occasion or just to brighten someone’s day.

Roots and Community
Both Jay and Teri are proud Lubbock natives. They’ve been lifelong supporters of the Red Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs, celebrating the Chiefs’ recent success after decades of fandom.
Jay is a dentist at Dental Care at Oakmont, and Teri, now a fitness instructor, met Jay in junior high at Matthews Junior High School. They’ve shared a remarkable journey together ever since.

Family Traditions and Hobbies
The Hudsons are passionate about sports, cars, and spending quality time together. Whether cheering on Texas Tech football, skiing in Keystone or Durango, or vacationing at the beach in Seaside, their family traditions are rooted in togetherness and fun. Jay and Teri also love trying new restaurants and are frequent visitors to local spots like La Plaza and Candle Bar.

Giving Back and Settling In
Jay and Teri are excited to contribute to the Oakmont community, inspired by the friendly atmosphere and vibrant holiday spirit that drew them back to Lubbock. They are members of Sunset Church of Christ and are committed to continuing the legacy of community impact established by their parents. Jay’s father, a former Dean of Mass Communications at Texas Tech, and Teri’s father, a preacher at Sunset Church of Christ, both left lasting marks on Lubbock’s history.

Advice for New Neighbors
“Get out and meet your neighbors,” Jay and Teri suggest. “Use Stroll Oakmont as a resource to discover local businesses, events, and ways to connect with the community.”
The Hudson family is thrilled to be back in Lubbock, embracing their new neighborhood and looking forward to building lasting relationships with their Oakmont neighbors. And with The Flower Taxi set to hit the streets soon, they’re eager to spread even more joy and beauty throughout the community.
