For Laurie and Todd McKee, travel is one of life’s greatest joys, but their recent African journey stands out as a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. Traveling alongside lifelong friends and guided by Come-2-Africa, the couple embarked on an unforgettable multi-country adventure through South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and the breathtaking Cape Town region.

Their journey began with a flight into Johannesburg, followed by an overnight stay in the beautiful city of Pretoria before heading into the heart of the African wilderness — Botswana’s legendary Okavango Delta. During their four-night safari experience, Laurie and Todd found themselves fully immersed in nature, witnessing incredible wildlife encounters including lions and cubs, leopards, water buffalo, elephants, and countless other species.

One of Todd’s favorite memories came when he captured a dramatic wildlife moment on video — a male leopard chasing away a female leopard who had begun feasting on his freshly caught impala. The following day brought another remarkable scene as lions had moved in and were feeding on the same prey. For Laurie, the magic of the trip came through photography, capturing once-in-a-lifetime moments that preserved the beauty and excitement of the experience.

The group then traveled to the Chobe River, where they spent three nights fishing, observing wildlife along the riverbanks, and enjoying authentic African cuisine. From there, they visited the iconic Victoria Falls, where they hiked alongside the thundering falls and experienced a breathtaking helicopter tour over the Zambezi River and waterfall system.

Their adventure concluded in Cape Town and South Africa’s scenic wine country and Atlantic coastal region. While Todd took advantage of the area’s renowned golf courses, Laurie enjoyed exploring local markets and cultural experiences unique to the region.

Reflecting on the journey, Laurie and Todd describe it as a perfectly curated adventure filled with awe-inspiring scenery, unforgettable wildlife encounters, and meaningful time with friends.

“It was a memorable adventure we will never forget,” they shared. “We wouldn’t change a thing and would love to share details of the trip with any Oakmont friends and neighbors who might be interested in making the journey themselves.”
