SOZO Health

Wellness is always a priority, or it should be. Unfortunately making time for wellness can be
difficult with the busy lives we all lead and the often limited time we have for self-care.
Achieving wellness is further complicated by the often fragmented approaches take—diet,
exercise, and various medical issues are most often addressed separately rather than as a
whole. Here in Lubbock, one local practice is looking to change that and advance a more
holistic view of health and wellness. Jamie Stice and her team at Sozo Health treat the whole
person, not parts or disorders—and the results can be life changing.
Having grown up on a farm in Floydada, Jamie started her career in nursing working with
women’s health and OB/GYN, which in turn spurred the interest that would eventually lead
her to found Sozo Health: “I worked as an RN for 10 years before going back to school [at
West Texas A&M University] to earn an MSN. I’ve been a nurse practitioner since 2012, and
I’ve worked in Obstetrics/Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, and Family Practice. Doing a
lot of women’s health pushed me more towards hormone health. I love working to find the root
issue, listening to people, and trying to figure it all out rather than just throwing a pill after the
problem.”
Her holistic approach led her to found Sozo Health, and shaped the services the practice
currently offers: ““I am a FP nurse practitioner, so I can offer the day to day wellness visits,
mammograms, pap screening, urology, basic illness care. But our real focus is health
optimization—weight loss, wellness, anti-aging and longevity going forward, and peptide
therapy.” Working with state of the art medical testing technologies and her own experience,
the Sozo Health approach treats the whole person, not the condition or complaint. Sozo also
offers a really cool—pun intended—cold plunge and a relaxing, refreshing sauna.
We did have to ask about the name, and Jamie was kind enough to explain its origins—and
correct a common assumption: “it’s not a Zeppelin reference, to be clear. When I was naming
my clinic I was just trying to think of something unique, something that carries a lot of
meaning. I came across the word “sozo” which means “wholeness, body mind, and spirit.”
That’s really what my passion is, we’re more than just a body walking around and I want to
address what makes us whole. That really resonated with me so it became my practice’s
name.”
Jamie’s interactions with patients involve a lot of listening and learning about the person, not
just their test results. With that in mind, she’s structured her practice to maximize the time
spent with each and every person in her care: “I don’t accept insurance, this is a cash
practice. Insurance forces you to see many patients in short amounts of time; I've worked in
clinics where I have to see 20-30 patients a day and it doesn’t give you time to sit down and
focus on the issue. By not taking insurance I can spend 30 minutes to an hour with a patient
as needed. They know what they’re going to pay when they come and they're not going to get
a bill fro me later. So It’s more straightforward, more personalized, and they can still use their
insurance for tests and medication where accepted.”
It’s a brilliant and refreshing approach to wellness, and Sozo Health is open to anyone—men
or women, child, teen or adult—who wants to take that next step towards a better way of
living: “We’re here for anyone who’s looking to optimize their health, who’s frustrated with

where they’ve been before. If they feel like they haven’t been listened to or heard we may be
a great choice for them; I can see anybody for anything but that’s what sets me apart.”
