Paws, Pampered & Peaceful
At Well Groomed Pets, grooming isn’t just about looking good—it’s about calm spaces, careful wellness checks, and dogs who leave feeling better than they arrived.
The first thing you notice in the Fullingim’s dog grooming salon is that it’s clean and quiet.
No dogs barking, no growling, no whining. It’s a busy yet peaceful space and that’s how they want Well Groomed Pets to be.
“We try to keep it this way,” Sherri explained when we visited. “Half a dozen dogs in and everyone’s quiet, everyone’s calm. 90% of the time this is how we operate. The other 10% - well, dogs do bark sometimes!” There’s a reason for this; as pet owners, they had a few less-than-stellar experiences when getting grooming care for their own pets: “We felt like we could improve on the level of care and service in the grooming industry. When this opportunity came up we thought, ‘that’s the kind of place where we want to take our dogs.”’
Well Groomed Pets has a simple philosophy - focus on the well-being of the dogs first and foremost. Groomers are often positioned to notice problems before any other animal care professionals, Sherri explained. “Dogs see a groomer typically every four to six weeks, they see a veterinarian one time a year, maybe. During that year they can gain or lose weight, develop lumps, lymphomas, skin cancer—all of these things that a groomer is going to notice. So we do wellness checks, keep records in our system. We watch their weight, we have our hands on them in the bath and we can feel lumps and take measurements. We find things like abrasions and we document them. We take pics and let the parents know ‘we found this, we don’t know what caused it but we want you to keep an eye on it.’ or “we found a lump on Fido’s chest, we need to watch it to make sure he doesn’t have anything else going on.”
This level of care from a dog grooming service is only possible if the staff is on top of their game, and Doug and Sherri pride themselves on having an amazing team. “We have exceptional groomers and bathers, they check these dogs over, look at their teeth, their eyes and ears. And it’s not only about the wellness, the grooms are beautiful! They pay attention to the details. We do our dead level best to take care of the pups while they’re here.” And while the satisfaction of their clients is tangible, the team at Well Groomed Pets tries to stay humble: “We have five-star reviews on Google—[we] try not to brag because that can change in a heartbeat!”
We don’t think that five-star record is going to change anytime soon. Well Groomed Pets of Lubbock consistently goes the extra mile to make dog grooming convenient and accessible for pet parents: “People like what we do, we are not the drop your dog off in the morning and pick it up in the afternoon kind of salon. We book by appointment and try to get the dogs out of the bath and onto the grooming table as quickly as possible. And we send text alerts to let the parents know what we’re doing through the process and when to pick up their pet.” This avoids unnecessary stress on the animal and the anxiety it can create for everyone involved and a much easier-to-schedule service for busy pet owners.
Dog grooming salons abound, but for the Fullingims and their team at Well Groomed Pets, the comfort, safety, and sanity of Lubbock dogs and dog-parents come first. If you’re like most of us, it’s probably past time to pamper your pooch with a professional grooming. Well Groomed Pets can make that easy, pleasant, and friendly for everyone involved.
