Ireland had long been on Kelly and Nancy Baggett's travel bucket list, thanks to its rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and reputation as the Emerald Isle. In September, the couple spent 10 unforgettable days exploring the country, beginning in Dublin, driving south through the countryside, and looping back north to Galway.

Their journey was packed with incredible experiences. They toured Trinity College's famous library to see the Book of Kells, an illuminated manuscript dating back to around 800 AD, before hiking the stunning Howth Cliffs overlooking the Irish Sea. Along the way, they explored centuries of history at landmarks like the Rock of Cashel, admired the ruins of Gothic abbeys, and wandered through Ireland's picturesque countryside.

One of the highlights was visiting Blarney Castle, where a bagpiper welcomed visitors as they arrived. After climbing the castle's narrow, winding staircase, Nancy kissed the famous Blarney Stone, earning the legendary "gift of gab."

For Kelly, one of the most memorable adventures was deep-sea fishing off the Dingle Peninsula, while another fascinating stop took them to The Burren on Ireland's west coast. There they visited the ancient Poulnabrone Dolmen, a remarkable portal tomb that dates back more than 6,000 years.

Of course, no trip to Ireland would be complete without sampling the local cuisine. Fish and chips and hearty Irish breakfasts were favorites, although Kelly's attempt to try traditional white pudding wasn't quite as successful. "It's safe to say that wasn't our favorite part of the menu," they laughed.

Perhaps the funniest memory happened while driving their bright yellow rental car from Cork to Killarney. They couldn't understand why high-performance sports cars kept speeding past them or why crowds lined the roads cheering. Soon they realized they had accidentally driven into the middle of a car rally! Spectators enthusiastically waved and held up signs reading, "Rev it!" Mistaken for rally participants, Kelly and Nancy simply smiled, waved back, and played along.

What stood out most wasn't just Ireland's dramatic scenery or fascinating history—it was the warmth of its people. From the lively street musicians in Galway's Eyre Square to friendly locals they met along the way, every stop felt welcoming.

The Baggetts say they would return to Ireland in a heartbeat, and Kelly is already lobbying for another visit. Their advice for fellow travelers is simple: do your research and have a plan, but leave room for unexpected adventures. After all, sometimes the best memories come from the moments you never could have planned.
