Big Joy in a Small World
For Stephanie Small, Old Westbury isn’t just where she lives—it’s where her story began. After growing up in the community, she now raises her own family here, bringing her love for the neighborhood full circle. To make their house feel like home, the Small family decided to create a special space for their kids: a playroom brought to life with a custom mural.
The idea came shortly after moving in. With a toddler and another baby on the way, Stephanie knew the playroom would be the center of family life. Her decorators, Debbie Baum and Cari Moon, suggested hiring artist Matt Litwack of Intelligent Graffiti to make the space extra special. “Matt was approachable and fun to work with. He truly brought our vision to life,” Stephanie said.
Stephanie and her husband wanted something bright and fun that would stand the test of time. Instead of going with a character their kids might outgrow, the Smiths chose a design inspired by Disney’s It’s a Small World. Not only is it timeless, but it also cleverly incorporates their family name, making it uniquely theirs.
The mural is more than just art; it’s a reflection of their family values—colorful, fun, and full of joy. For the Smalls, it’s a perfect way to celebrate home and community in Old Westbury.
