The Bryan Bergens' Way

Lots of education mixed with a philosophy of caring is what makes Bergen's Periodontics special.

Patients trust Bryan Bergens and love his manner, and you can't find a more humble guy. He is the kind of doctor who sits down to discuss a case and genuinely cares. You can feel it.

Bryan is certainly loved by his staff, not to mention his family! Bryan’s team at Bergens Periodontics has been with him for a long time. In fact, two-thirds of the staff have been with him between 15-30 years.

He’s easy to get along with and they love him. Staff will testify to this.

Several staff members expressed how compassionate he is with his patients and his quality of care. No one likes to face a tooth implant or problems requiring the expertise of a periodontist, but if you need this treatment, at least Bryan and his team are there for you.

“Our focus is on patient care,” Maureen Souza, office manager and employee of 22 years said. “We simply mirror his philosophy.”

Bryan, the youngest of four siblings, grew up in Louisiana and attended Louisiana State University where he started out as a physics major.

“At a certain point in college, I realized that physics didn’t have a clear career path,” Bryan said. “I was a volunteer at a children’s hospital and really liked the dentistry part so I changed my major.”

He more than changed his major, he went on to graduate from the Postgraduate Program of Periodontics and received his Periodontology Board Certification in 1997. He is a Fellow, International Congress of Oral Implantologists, and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Periodontology (a person who has made significant achievements beyond the mandatory educational requirements of the specialty). He also serves as an Assistant Professor in implant surgery at the University of Florida School of Dentistry, teaching there about twice a month.
There is no one else in this area as highly trained.

Besides balancing his Daytona and Palm Coast offices, Bryan loves biking, tennis and reading. But what seems to be a favorite is traveling with his wife, Bridget, of 35 years. Bridget and Bryan met at a country western bar in New Orleans 42 years ago, where to her delight he walked up to her and said, “Do you believe in love at first sight?”

Bridget in her own right is into health as well, as the owner of BWell. “I help individuals find answers and solutions to the causes of their illness and nutritional imbalance by providing a deeper understanding of how lifestyle and food choices affect them. My practice is focused on a wellness-based approach of functional medicine.”

Bryan and Bridget Bergens both advocate health and are a delight to be around. Bryan’s advice to everyone regarding dental care is, “Don’t forget to go to your dentist. Practice good home care. People get lazy and stop doing what they know they should. Stay excited about it and don’t slack off. Exams and maintenance can ward off future problems.”

And that’s a lot coming from the doctor who fixes those problems. But that’s Bryan. Because he cares.
